Years ago, when all the cars had were points in the ignition system, my Dad told me that leaving the key in the "on" position would burn the points. Is this a myth or not. Also, does leaving it in the "on" position with electronic ignition harm anything?

That's why the "accessory" position is there - it disconnects the ignition circuit. smile.gif

Definately true with breaker points. The points and the coil will suffer. As for solid state ignitions, I'm not sure it is an issue. I image they only ground the coil for a short duration when pulses are recieved from the pickup. Application specific behavior I would presume.
