I just finished installing a tach thats been sitting for 24 years. The thing is real slow, and sticks at the highest rpm,it willdrop down, but takes a while. If you tap it ,it will drop some.Think this will go away with use?I'm using this with an HEI,it was made to work with points, could this be the problem?I dont think it would matter.

I really did'nt look at how the internals work, but can I lube something in it?I checked it out further today, seems accurate as long as you keep tapping on the cluster.Seems to stick more around 1300rpm,needs more aggressive tapping to keep the gauge moving,at 1300.

Have you tried a small amount of light oil dripped down the needle shaft? That may help...

Has anyone tried oiling their tach? I would hate to ruin it.Again,if I continually tap on the dash carrier the tach works perfectly. If I stop tapping,it acts like the needle is not free. Could dust inside tach cause this?

I don't know if this will fix your tach or not, But I would try and blow it out real good with a air hose and clean it with some electronic cleaner. I think very much oil on it would just attract more dust and cause more problems in the future.
