I just installed a new motor and trans in my 68 camaro and now the dome light doesn't work and the heater doesn't work anymore. It all worked before we pulled the engine. Could it be a ground wire or something we missed? When we first ran the car we had to break in the cam and the temperature got 210 and we went to turn the heater on and it was dead. The heater box was too hot to even touch. The second fuse down on the right side of the fuse box was blown, so I raplaced it and it blew right away. Can anybody help me????? Thanks, Erik

You have 2 seperate problems.
The dome light gets power all of the time. Remove the bulb and check for 12 volts at both sides of the light socket. One side/contact should have 12 volts. If not trace the wiring back to the fuse box. You need the 12 volts.
If you have the 12 volts, then there is an open between the other side of the dome light and its ground. There are 3 places for the circuit to find ground. The light switch & either door switch. I doubt that all 3 went bad, you probably have a broken wire.

The heater problem is probably a wire that you crushed/pinched and it is grounded out. I'm not sure of the routing, but you need to follow the wires from the blower motor back to the switch or relay and fuse box.
When you say the heater was too hot to touch, do you mean the heater core???Blower motor??/

Thanks Rick, you nailed the heater core problem right on the head. I had to put the tall valve covers on this engine due to roller rockers and the orange wire was crushed between the valve cover and the engine, I couldn't believe the pressure that the covers put on the wire. It was totally flatened. I haven't traced the dome light yet. I had to fix some tranny problems first. Thanks again, Erik
