I just picked up a new tach for my 67...but it did not originally come with a tach. There is an aftermarket tach in the car that is wired and working. My question is, can I just cut the wire to the aftermarket tach and hook to the factory tach? Anyone know?
Thx in advance,
Gary

Not knowing the wires the presently installed one has and if you are running a different distributor.... Make sure you have the right wire from the distributor hooked to the tach and visa versa. HEI distributors let a person also feel the pain in the pocket if hooked wrong. The present undoubtably has a tach wire and ground. There's the light wire for the tach that might be in the bundle also. Not sure if the green wire is your tach wire but it sounds like what I remember. Good luck waiting for the experts to reply.

USUALLY- black is ground, red is 12v, green goes to negative side of coil and yellow is lights.. green is almost always the coil, but the yellow one changes. double check where everything runs against your wiring diagram and you should be able to just splice in.

Should use same wires. Ground, light, and to the tach is green for HEI.
