I checked the alternator and it is good. I have a new voltage regulator also checked to be good. However, the charge is not getting back to the battery. Any ideas on what to look for? I know the bat side of the alt has to be connected to the battery via the junction block. What about the other 2 wires that plug into the alt and the ground? Does the ground have to be grounded to the neg side of the bat, or just a good ground? If someone has a STOCK setup please let me know how the reg is wired. Also, what is the small "capacitor" looking thing on it. Is it a capacitor? Will this keep the battery from charging? How can I check it?

Does the alt light come on when the key turned to run postion, befor engine started?
The large red wire should have power to it, It runs to the battery,
The plug in wire harness should have voltage at one connection, The other wire puts the light out when the alt. is turning.
You might want to get hold of a wire diagram and follow the leads.
What year is the car?

Dash is not in the car yet. I am still getting the wiring sorted out. The large red wire from the alt goes to the battery? Right now it is running to a junction block. Then a small wire is running to the battery and another to the fuse block. What about the 2 wires that plug into the alt?

What Rob meant was the large red wire on the alternator goes to the positive battery terminal eventually, not directly. The whole circuit, from alternator to battery, should be a 10 gauge wire. The other two wires should be white and blue if original. One goes to the regulator (blue I think) and the other goes to the dummy light. Using a test light, key on engine off, the one going to the reg should have power. If you hook the testlight lead to + battery the other wire should light it with the key on engine off and it should go out with the engine running.
