View Full Version : Ignition Switched on Fuse Block?
67killerb Aug 7th, 02, 05:31 PM I am looking for a place to run the power to the HEI distributor on a 67. On the fuse block, on the right side there are spades for "ACC FUSED" "LAMPS" "IGN FUSED" and "BATTERY FUSED". When I have the key turned to Accessory, I get power to the "ACC FUSED" post. When I turn on the lights, I have power to the "LAMPS" post. The "BATTERY FUSED" post always has power. Given all this, shouldn't I have power to the "IGN FUSED" post when I turn the key on? As it is, I don't ever have power to that post or that fuse for that matter.

67killerb Aug 8th, 02, 07:00 AM It will turn the engine over (crank it). Yes. I have not fully started it because I wanted to get all my guages installed and working first.
67killerb Aug 9th, 02, 03:29 AM Anyone have an idea about this?
John_Muha Aug 9th, 02, 11:00 AM No schematics in front of me. May be thinking of a later model, so if I'm off about things, it's just old age.
The IGN terminal gets its power from the pink wire off the ignition switch. Believe it powers the 2 lower right fuses in the fuse block. Believe the IGN terminal gets its power from the second from the bottom, right hand side fuse. Forgot what it is marked.
Check both metal sides of the fuse for 12 volts. Scratch the fuse clips on each side of the fuse. Measure the scratched areas with your meter. Most probable cause for the IGN terminal, not to have power, is corroded fuses and fuse clips. If that's not it, check for power from the ignition switch, though I think you have that. After that, pull the fuse block and see if there is a problem behind it.
67killerb Aug 9th, 02, 11:52 AM Its a brand new fuse block, so corrosion is not a factor. I pulled it off the firwall and checked the back of the block, and sure enough there is a pink wire attached to that post. This wouldn't have anything to do with the pink wire that went to the connector on the old instrument cluster, (that according to the schematic looked like it led to the ignition switch) would it? I have terminated that wire since I replaced the stock instrument cluster with new Ultra-Lite Autometer speedo and tach.
John_Muha Aug 9th, 02, 12:23 PM Could be. Again I don't have a schematic on me but it sounds like the memory is close. Pink is a switched ignition line. On the ignition switch side, of the fuse block, it goes to two places. 1, The fuse block. 2, Runs out the bulkhead connector to the (+) terminal of the coil. This powers the coil and car.
"Pink" also comes out of the other side of the fuse and runs things like the gages. This pink is on the fused side of the block. Believe the IGN terminal is also on the fused side.
If there is no power to the pink on the un-fused side or if the wire from the ignition switch/bulkhead connector is missing, then part of the fuse block won't have power. That part, I think, is the two fuses on the lower right hand side.
67killerb Aug 13th, 02, 07:30 PM I am confused. I don't have power to the "IGN FUSED" spade at any time. It seems there is no power to that fuse at all. I have my lights for the autometer guages running off the "LAMPS" spade, power to the guages from the "ACC FUSED" spade, but am at a loss as to where I should get power to the distributor? Maybe I just don't understand how this works. My impression was that I could run a wire from the "IGN FUSED" spade to the distributor, but as I said, I don't have any power to that spade or fuse for that matter at any point in time. Anybody have any ideas about what might be causing this? I checked the wires on the back of the fuse block and on the left side spade (as you face the front of the fuse block) and it has a heavy pink wire attached to it. The other side is a small (18 ga) pink wire. Is this correct? HELP!
1 2RUN Aug 14th, 02, 07:30 AM Trace the pink wire back to the ignition switch and see if you're getting power at the pink wire on the switch when the switch is in the run position. If you are check the large pink wire on the back of the fuseblock. If you have power there in the run position replace the fuse even if it looks good. If you don't have power there in the run position you have a break in the wire between the ignition switch and the fuseblock. Find it and fix it.
