The Good&Slicker tires just gave up on my 2001 Dodge Dakota QC 2 wheel Drive. They were:

P255/65R/16 Goodyear Eagle LS

Got 3 quotes today for new tires and I am trying to make up my mind.

Quote 1: Firestone Destination A/T P265/70R/16 - $741.43

Quote 2: BFG Long Trail P265/70R/16 - $584.08

Quote 3: Cooper Discoverer A/T P265/70R/16 - $538.06

Each company included, of course, mounting, balancing and new valve stems. Each also quoted lifetime front end alignment.

Just wondering what your opinion would be on these choices. I know that with a little larger tire my speedometer may be a little out of sync.

Thanks in advance,

Randy

I just got new tires and they are very good.I got the new good year tires; Assurance Triple Threads they're called. They are good in the rain/snow/dry.And the price is very reasonible. The guy told me they do make 16", so you shouldn't have any problems getting them. All the best for the season.

What I do is cruise the local salvage yard for a set... Cheap,low-milage units cost me around a hundred bucks, and I have a place that'll mount 'em for less than $20... Not too bad and I've had good luck with them (often they outlast whatever I mount them on). If you have a hard to find size it may take a little looking but usually they're cheaper since they're harder to unload... Ya gotta be a flexible on brand... smile.gif

I definately agree with radial72. Find a salvage yard that specializes in late model vehicles. In the past I have gotten 4 235/75-15's with less than 500 miles on them for $100...off of wrecked almost brand new trucks.

Out of the choices you listed, the coopers, while a good traction tire, dont last for squat.

We had the 16" Long Trail T/A's on our 2004 Trailblazer, and I sware they didn't last 15K miles..... graemlins/angry.gif Dealership said the wear patterns were normal, but 15K miles on a new set of tires? Please. I did some research, and ended up getting the Yokohama Geolander HT/S tires, a little more expensive than some of the other alternatives, but are the longest "lasting" rated tire I could find. Ride quality is great too, out of the three you've listed, I'd definitely choose the Firestones, if you don't mind rollover crashes :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well, I just got back from having the BFG's installed. We'll see how they last, but already I feel an improvement in the ride. Going on a 200 mile trip today, we'll see.

Y'all have a Merry Christmas now and thanks for the replies.
