I am having trouble getting my 68 started.I have an HEI ignition, just replaced the coil and it is getting 12 volts to the cap when ignition is on. no spark from the plugs. It flooded out when I first tried to start it,could the plugs be fouled? I have tried finding TDC on #1 cylinder, then 180 degrees no luck. It was origionally a 3 speed so It doesn`t have a neutral safety switch correct?

There are two wires run and start. Run may be hooked up to cap and you are getting juice but when you turn key and try to start it the start wire may not be hooked up and cap is not getting juice to start motor. Just my guess, hope it helps.

Try to hook up a tach to the tach side of the cap If you are getting a tach signal then the prob is in the secondary side of the ignition. If you are gatting no tach signal then look to primary side.(module/pick up coil).

Tach is getting power, 12v to +on cap,but when I crank the motor over the volts drop to nothing. I have replaced everything but the cap on the distributor. It tried to start once now no spark out of the cap. I can`t think of anything else.

Try changing the 12 volt source for the HEI..sounds like it's tapped into a circuit that has no juice when cranking.

I think the wiper motor is NOT a good source.
I think during starting the power to the wiper motor is cut off until the engine starts. I have read several posts as to wiring to the wiper motor is a good source. I have found out differently. I will wire it direct to the fuse box and see what happens.

From everyting I know, the wiper motor is NOT a good source. When you are starting a car and have the wipers on, they go off while pausing the car, right? Well the smae thing is happening with your distributor, making it so you can't start the car. Wire it to the fuse box, or find another underhood wire to tap into. I removed the stock resistor wire and wired the new wiring into the stock junction block. It looks factory, and works like a charm.

You need a 20 ga. wire going from the "R" terminal on the starter solenoid to the "+" side of the coil. This gives the coil 12v during "START". The original wire was yellow.
