: What is this '69 worth???
69Z502 May 21st, 04, 08:27 AM I ran across a '69 base Camaro with a 327, auto all original 1 owner car for sale. The guy is selling it for his wifes 82 year old friend who bought it new and has all papers including the invoice. Car is in excellent condition always garaged only work done was 1/4 skins and paint in 93 and was done right. It has PS and that is it. Runs great and has 130K miles on it. He says she wants 14K for it what do you all think? The car is VERY NICE but all original with no rust anywhere.
67 Plum May 21st, 04, 09:10 AM Doesnt sound like a bad price to me.I have seen cars that werent as nice as your description sell for as much or more.
smits67 May 21st, 04, 10:56 AM In today's market, it is a fair price and it sounds like a good find. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I have to get this off my chest though guys...............$14,000 for a 35 year old car, with 130,000 miles on the clock, with a repaired body, and it is a base (low performance)model!?!?!
Somehow, todays market just doesn't seem right to me. How times have changed. :(

69musclecar May 21st, 04, 06:38 PM Chris,
thats why I'm looking into getting a syclone now smile.gif .
I can buy a base camaro for 14,000 or I can buy a 12sec syclone for 11,500.
So I think I'm going to have to go w/the syclone.
Someday I'll own a classic camaro, just don't when.

36j1967 May 21st, 04, 10:14 PM No way! Not for a base car with a 12 year old repaired rust problem! Is the motor rebuilt? Wiring harness replaced? Tranny rebuilt? What about the suspension at 130K? Do all the bushings and springs need replaced? Did they recore the radiator? Steering box and lines in good shape? Do all the signals work? Fuel tank and sending unit? Was the dash cut for a stereo? window regulators move the glass OK? Weather striping been replaced along with window felts? Carpet and interior all good? Brakes been serviced with new lines hoses drums pads master cylinder proportioning valve wheel cylinders? Does it have a spare and jack? I just listed about 5k worth of parts and labor. For a base 69 327! Keep looking, "original" sometimes means "In need of restoration" and plenty of money.
ckaram May 22nd, 04, 03:35 AM 69musclar! Fight the urge! Go with the classic!
What the heck does 2 seconds in the quarter mean? Someone's always faster, regardless of what you have!
Unless of course you already have the 69 that your name suggests! graemlins/beers.gif
69Z502 May 22nd, 04, 09:56 AM Thanks for the input people. I think he is out of his mind at 14K too. I'll let him sit on it for a while and see what happens. I think it may be worth about 11500. The body is solid rust free and the paint is about an 8 out of 10. But yes things will need rebuilt, cleaned, detailed etc... Thanks all.
MrDanB May 22nd, 04, 12:18 PM I think it all depends on who you ask...Shortly after I bought my 69 coupe car and BEFORE I started pouring $$ into it, I was offered 10k for it. The guy owned some big local company and liked the color combo w/the houndstooth int. I paid 2k for it from a "little old lady". Just because it's a base coupe doesn't mean no one in the universe will never get more than 10k for their car. Now that my coupe car is mostly redone, I bet I could get 12k for it if I just wanted to get rid of it in a hurry. Not everybody knows what options are rare or what the "fair market value" is. Obviously a "plain jane coupe" in similar condition to a Z or ss will never bring the same $$, but to say that they will never bring more than a certain amount is incorrect in my book! Certainly there are a bunch of badged cars out there that are owned by folks who can't/won't afford to dump big coin into them to make them nice again. Not all badged cars are truly badged cars anyway. Sorry for the rant, I just think by the sound of the elderly coupe car owner it's probably well worth 14k for it!

DOUG G May 22nd, 04, 04:26 PM If its all there and includes ALL paper work. I think 10-12K,easy in this market. Get 15+ on E-Bay? 90% original,Doc's,and ect.
z28doug May 22nd, 04, 05:07 PM If a base 69 Camaro is what your looking for I'd say offer them the 11.5K you think it's worth and see what happens. I doubt that the price of the 69's will be going down any time soon. As far as the paperwork I don't think it adds much value to a base car.
MrDanB May 22nd, 04, 08:03 PM Z28Doug, I think you're right on with the paperwork on base cars. I have posted before that it's funny how without the paperwork, it can be hard to prove the authenticity of a z or ss, but here I've got a build sheet and pop card proving that my coupe in fact came from the factory with no special equipment.lol I still think that 1st gen prices are going through the roof!! I'm almost thankful that I don't have to search out a set of JL8 brakes or shell out several hundred for a gm cowl hood...
Dano ;)
36j1967 May 23rd, 04, 05:45 AM Dano, I think you inadvertantly proved my point. You started with a 2k car poured money into it and now it should bring 12k. What if you started at 14k and poured money into it? Ouch!!! in my opionion. If the car had rust repair and new paint over ten years ago and has 130,000 miles on it, more restoration dollars are on the horizon. I in no way was trying to bash base cars. You will notice in my signature I have two 327/210hp cars. I buy cars and parts on a regular basis and look at two or three cars a week. The 68RS L30/M20 was purchased this past month for $14,500. It has 36k miles, original paint with no rust and matching # drive train. It has a rip in the seat and left turn signal doesnt work. I often here stories about getting big money for a car that some buyer has always wanted, but I wouldnt count on that happening everytime you need to sell a car! Lots of good deals around if you work at it and are patient. Now my rant is over. graemlins/beers.gif

MrDanB May 23rd, 04, 06:51 PM Well Pat, I can see your point, and thanks for clarifying that you weren't bashing coupes ;)
I was "Johnny on the spot" finding mine for such a low price. I still think it's hard to say if 14k is too high for the car in question because we haven't seen it yet...Also geographic location has some small part to do with it. I don't know about Indiana, but here in Washington 1st gen cars bring a small fortune (in my opinion). IF the car needs "the usual routine upgrades", then I would say that 14k is too high. If the car is a solid, well maintained daily driver, then maybe 14k isn't out of the ballpark...I don't think I would want to fork out 14k for a coupe car unless it was really something to look at and was planning to keep it for a while...

joebar May 24th, 04, 05:38 AM I paid 6500 for my 68 three years ago, no motor or tranny, a base coupe, needing rear quarter skins, my buddy just paid 6500 for a 69. Time and place is still important, you know right place right time. Since purchasing my 68, I have put a lot of $$$ into it. But still do not regret paying the money. Offer $10 to 11K for it and see what happens. Just my thoughts
red69camaro May 25th, 04, 05:33 AM This sounds like my first 69. 1 owner, PS, AT, 327 and that was it. had right at 90k on it and the body work and paint had just been done. paid 3 grand for it in 80. Everyone gave me a hard time. Drove for 8 summers put 30k on it and sold it for 6.5 grand. bought a new Harley. 16 years later you could still buy a new hog with it! Maybe the price of these things is follows the Harley prices. graemlins/beers.gif
Granny's 69 May 27th, 04, 04:52 AM I have a 69 base coup that was a 327/210hp/Powerglide with AC & Power Steering and that's about it. My car had 117K miles on it when I got it. I certainly can't complain about the price of mine since I inheirited it from my dear departed grandmother...
I agree that $14K may or may not be a fair price for the car depending upon how much money you pour into it after you buy it. If everything is mechanically ok and all you have to do is drive it, then $14K might be a fair price. But if you have to make major repairs or get the urge to start adding performance goodies, then the car may not be such a bargain after all.
Since my car has some sentimental value to me, I'm not overly concerned about it's market value. But if I were going to spend a substantial amount like $14K, I would look at it more as a business decision and I certainly would want to get the most "car" for my money.....maybe a documented RS or SS,etc.
