i have a 69 camaro, 350. i replaced the battery and the positive battery cable. when i did this now the gen. and oil light in the dash comes on when there is no key in the car. then i started it up and it would not turn off, so i unhooked the battery and it still ran, so i disconnected the coil and it shut off. i am lost on what the problem is.

Check and make sure the small yellow wire that goes to the starter is not touching the positive cable that goes to the battery. A lot of times this wire is left unconnected and dangling.

Rojo is correct... To be clear, he is not saying to leave the yellow disconnected ... The yellow energizes the ignition system during "cranking" . Make sure yellow and purple are isolated from the large stud that the battery cable connects to...
