Will a optima battery clamp down with stock battery tray in a 68? Also will a battery topper fit on this battery?

Yes, it will clamp just fine...you have to crank it down to form around the round center part of the battery, but it holds tight. I wondered the same thing about the topper myself, that red top really sticks out.

I've had 4 of those batteries, and 2 Exides, and not a one of them lasted beyond 1 year.

I even had one of the blue deep cycles and a yellow deep cycle.
