the previous owner installed a switch pitch stall converted in the th400 that runs off the brake light switch mounted to the foot petal. When working, the tranny is disengaged when the brake is applied and given full stall when not actuated. For some reason, when i turn on my left blinker, the switch is accuated and the tranny disengages, usually spinning the wheels around a corner when it re-engages at about 3000 rpm. any ideas on what may be causing this? its clearly unsafe and i would appreciate some help as soon as possible. thanks.

I was going to put one of those in a Buick I had but the brake switch is kinda strange. I know that the stall can be changed by a toggle switch and makes it kinda nice for street/strip use.

I would connect it to a manual switch that way you can engage it when you want to.

Not because I know anything... but I'd check all of the grounds associated with left turns. Front & rear lights, dash lite. Sounds like the electric signal is finding its way to ground thru the converter wiring. One of them FM circuits http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif.

I am running a S/P Trans/Converter. I originally was running a stock S/P converter and had mine wired to the brake light switch. I never noticed any "problem" with using the turn signals. Since then I went to an Aftermarket Converter with much higher stall, so much that it interfered with backing out of parking spaces etc. so I now run mine only by a manual switch. If you have a large cam and a stock S/P Converter you may need to use the brake light switch arrangement.
I'm not sure what would be causing your problem. Checking ground connections is always good advise but I am not sure that is the cause. Do you have a manual switch for the S/P also? If so, do you have a diode in the wires so that power from the manual switch cannot "backfeed" into the brake light system? If you don't have a diode I would suggest installing one.
I think a way to prevent the turn signal from affecting the converter may be to put a diode in the wire that leads from the brake light switch to the brake lights at some point after where the S/P Converter wire attaches.
If you are not familiar with diodes, they are "one way valves" that only let current flow one way. They are fairly cheap and you can get the type you need from Radio Shack.

PS. If your running a stock S/P Converter it makes a HUGE difference changing to a good Aftermarket S/P Converter. I was not impressed with stock S/P Converter but the one I have now really works well.
