I have a 1980 Camaro Z28 I am trying to fix up. Whenever I start the car, it makes a loud screeching noise for about five seconds. I think it may be the alternator belt, but I can't seem to get it right. Any help would be appreciated.

try putting some liquid soapon the belts to see if that is the problem, its cheaper than buying belt dressing. if it is the belts replace them. if that doesn't work see if the pulleys line up togather.
