I bought my Z28 a month ago and the previous owner had removed the temp gauge to install a new one. I'm not having any luck putting the parts together on the back side. I've been told to put the resistor on the top and bottom post first and the other piece, whatever it's called, on the left and right post. I have a couple of ground wires on the bottom post going to the back of the other set of gauges and one going between the temp and amp gauges. The green wire is on the left and the pink is on the right. If anyone has these gauges would you please let me know exactly how to install the temp gauge. Thanks, Donnie

There should be no connections between the ammeter and temperature gauge. There should only be two wires total connected to the ammeter both connected by the connector pins. The resistor does go on first and it is connected between the top and bottom post. Then there is a white plastic isolator that goes across between the left and right posts, then the two connector stabs go on then the nuts and lockwashers.
You do need one ground wire from the lower temperature gauge stud to the front guage support plate, as there is only one ground wire in the wiring harness and it attaches to the front plate. Without this extra ground wire the rear plate isn't grounded, and the temp gauge won't work.

Mark C., Thanks for the reply. What I meant to say was that the ground wire from the bottom stud was going to a screw hole that's in the middle of the plate between the temp and amp gauges. I didn't attach it to the amp gauge anywhere. So what you're saying,is that the ground wire should go from the bottom stud of the temp gauge to the bottom plate. When you put the resistor on first then put the other piece on top of it I guess this piece can't be tightened down to the plate because of the thickness of the resistor underneath it...correct. Is the purpose of this piece to just hold the connectors in place. Thanks, Donnie

I finally got the gauge to work today. When I bought the sending unit they either sold me the one for the light type or it was defective. Either way, when I put a different one in the gauge started working correctly. Thanks for the replies.
