View Full Version : Tail Light Fun
CamFrk68 Mar 19th, 01, 07:48 PM In my '68 camaro, both rear blinkers work fine, and both brake lights work fine, but when you have the brake depressed and driverside blinker on the passenger side brake light goes out, but when you have the other blinker on, it works fine. Any ideas
TOMSTV Mar 19th, 01, 08:02 PM More that likely it's a bad ground, it's the socket or a connection in the area.check the light bulbs too for a bad contacts. hope this helps.
jrt67ss350 Mar 20th, 01, 10:05 AM It's a bad turn signal switch. My 67 does the exact same thing, but I don't see it being worth the money for a turn signal switch right now. I'll probably replace the switch when I get around to rebuilding the steering column...........

rallybas Feb 23rd, 02, 03:40 PM Same think happend to me but opposite (drivers break went out when making right turns). The contacts on the turn signal switch wore out. But, if I only moved the turn signal lever slightly, all worked fine becasue it was still making contact. If I fully flipped the lever up, then the break light would go out. I used a twist tie to limit the switch's movement (as a temporary fix). Here is a picture of my "fix". The pen points to the contacts that exist on both sides. The pencil points to the twist tie that helped the limit the switch movement when making right turns. This worked OK, but I later replaced the switch for a new one (only $40 from mail order). Hope this helps. Below is a pic if you are interested.

rallybas Feb 24th, 02, 02:54 PM I agree, the steering column is a real pain to work on. By the way, when I installed my new turn signal switch (68 Camaro) and re-assebled the hardware around the column, a small spring poped out and slid down the column. I am not sure where exactly it came from. The spring is less than 1/2 inch tall and narrorw. Any ideas if it is important? I took the car for several test drives and all seems OK. The only odd thing I noticed is that when I apply the blinker and make a turn, I hear a clicking noise as if it wants to cancel to early, but it acts like it should and waits for the turn to finish before cancelling. Any thoughts on this?
Dave69Z Feb 25th, 02, 03:09 AM I did this last summer however mine is a 69 but they are similar. My problem was the horn wan't working. I fixed by replacing the turnsiganl switch, however when I was finished my right blinker would glow constantly until I put on the break, and then It came on strong. Somebody on this board told me too gently pull the wiring down so that it wasn't bunched up in the column and it worked. Cheapest fix I ever had. Apparently it shorts out the contacts at the switch.
ORENCH Feb 25th, 02, 03:32 PM rallybas, appart from the two turn signal canceling springs, which are ±3/8" diameter and kinda flat, there are three more springs that look like the one you describe. They are mounted in the 3 screws you have to loosen to remove the whole assembly. The ones you only loosen and turn back the ass'y to dissengage the thing. If I were you I'll verify if they are there, no matter if it's a pain in the neck.
