Careful about the coments, graemlins/clonk.gif that car is being made possible because of the efforts of a team member here! It may be what some would like to see as a Chevelle but it would need the Generals blessings before the name could be use. It's called the HRSS...

oh dont get me wrong, id love to have one. its a beautiful car. and the team member who got this rollin deserves an insane amount of credit, but 85-135 grand? i saw a pic in hot rod magazine of a guy who i think was grafting 70ish chevelle quarters on to a gto and i saw pics of the new nose. but how can that account for 40+ grand?

To say it's only a GTO with some fenders grafted on is reducing what is really going on to it's simplist form. The HRSS car is actually being reconstructed in a similar manor as cars like Mark Steilow's Mule or or Chip Foose's Grandmaster. Both cars are valued well into the 6 figure range. I said similar as I don't think the design and construction is as elaborate as the 2 one off's. Since there will be a small quantity of the HRSS being produced some of the R&D costs can be spread out as well. I'm sure in the end the profit margin is rather low on the HRSS and those with bank acounts that allow them to afford one will find them worth the price...

Thanks Dennis...your perceptions are correct. This car will not be for everyone, that's for sure. Hot Rod magazine and PriMedia productions feel like they can promote and peddle 30-40 units. I have my own opinion about that, but time will tell.

GM actually "blessed" the use of the "Chevelle" name on car #1 [my car], but thereafter...they're named HRSS and HRSS-454. The car is scheduled to debut on the HR Power Tour, so anyone that wants can see the car and make their own opinion. I can say this...the rendering and the actual car are enough different that I recommend folks reserve their opinion until it hits the streets. We ran the all aluminum 454ci engine up on the dyno for the first time, last week. It dyno'd 640HP and 578TQ [as I recall] on the first pull. If nothing else, the car will be a fun ride with plenty of power and creature comforts.

The selling price is a BIG number, no doubt, but there's a lot more than a few bolt-ons going on here. I can assure you that Hot Rod made a lot of calls, before they got the "S's" in the rolodex, to find a dumba$$ willing to sponsor the prototype car #1. The tranny and rearend of the GTO are about all that remains from factory production unit.

For those that can make it out to any of the Power Tour stops...look me up for more info and demo ride [except HawaiianJeff ;) ]. Hot Rod magazine got over 40,000 [I heard] emails of interest in building the car, but it's certainly not for everyone. Just a fun car, with good intentions to commemorate the '70 Chevelle SS. graemlins/beers.gif

Very cool Steve, glad you could swing it! I think it will be a lot of fun!

By the way, we should meet up at SEMA.

what happens to the "colelctibility" of one of these beasts if GM decides to make a Chevelle of their own? would it be worth more because it helped kick Chevy in the *** to get them to build it, or less because Chevy actually did build it?
good thinig i don't have enough money to really need to speculate on stuff like this...

Wow, ive got to say, thats a really cool car there. It is to bad the price is so much. No offense...but you could buy a real 1970 LS6 Chevelle for less than $85,000.

cool project though!

I'll look forward to seeing you this fall, Jody. I do the SEMA Show every year, plus the Chevelle will be inside the pavillion this year.

I guess it is going to take someone eles to take GM by the hand and lead them into the right direction. I hope they sell them all quickly. I do think that the price may hurt sales as for that kind of cheese, they are going to have to compete with a slew of proven super cars that have been around for years. I look forward to seeing it this summer.

If any of your follow Yenko.net LV has been posting the progression of the car over there. The resemblance the car has with the GTO is minimul, all the main body features seem to be undergoing changes to make the Chevelle distinct. Like Dennis said, just cause Foose or Steilow doesnt have their name on this car, does not mean it isnt A+ work. Take a look on the other sight and see the work and effort being put into this project, AND other projects LV has going. I am sure he has something that would impress everyone here.
Great man and a great project

Tim
