My tach works fine until about 5000 RPM then it gets all squirly(technical term). I can tell that the engine is revving higher, but the tach just bounces around.....Any suggestions?

Maybe a little spark scatter causing the tach to act up?

He's referring to the secondary (high) voltage from the coil leaking into the primary side. If you're using an external coil take a points type condensor and hook the lead up to the positive side of the coil and ground the condensor housing. There are also tach filters available.

Thanks for the explanation.....I'm a little slow, but I eventually catch on!
I am running a large body HEI with the coil in the cap.
