Hi...I am currently using a Mallory Unilite distributor in my 69 Z (was on the engine when I bought the car) and want to go back to the points type when I get the engine done. The wire from the stock distributor goes to negative of the coil...where is the wire that goes to the positive, what color is it, and is there just one wire or is there a resister wire as well?
Thanks for your help,

For the points style ignition, there is only one wire from the coil to the distributor (besides the spark wire)and it connects to the neg terminal on the coil. The pos terminal on the coil is supplied by a resistance wire that connects to the bulkhead connector on the firewall. This is a 12v. supply to the bulkhead connector. Also, there is a 20ga. yellow wire that runs from the positive terminal on the coil to the starter solinoid. This wire supplies 12v to the coil during "START" only. You MUST have this wire or your engine won't start.
If your resistance wire has been removed, you will need to replace it. A full 12v is too much for stock points and they will pit and burn up.
Just FYI, if your looking for a true stock looking setup, you might want to check out Daves small body HEIs (www.davessmallbodyheis.com). These are a true HEI ignition made up in a stock distributor to give you a completely stock look and they work great.
