I can't start my car. I've checked all my connections. there is a lot of corrosion around the fuse block and the harness that runs through the firewall. I know that it isn't because my battery is dead because if I hot wire it through the fuse block then it works. It also occasionally works by key sometimes, but it's like a 1 in 4 chance. I'm getting kinda tired of having to hot wire my car in public areas (feel kinda weird about it) and this is my daily and only car so any ideas you would have would be really appreciated as soon as possible. Thanks.

It sounds like you have already found the problem. You probably need to unplug the firewall/fusebox harness and clean it. If it is too bad, you might want to consider replacing the harness. I would wait for other replies because it may be an entirely different problem, but that sounds like a good place to start.

I fought a starter problem for months untill I pulled my harness and cleaned it real well.

I looked at the ignition switch and decided that I might as well replace it because it's original and if it hasn't died yet, it will soon. After doing it, the problem went away, so I think that's it. thanks for the speedy replies. I will probably be buying a harness later on with a new fuse box just do I don't have to worry about all of it.

If you're not worried about keeping it all orginal, then when you decide to re-wire, I'd go with the Painless Harness. I just finished re-wiring my 68. All I can say is that it was a lot easier than I had dared to dream. Their Tech support is pretty good too. The best part about it is I now know where every wire goes, what it does, and how to trouble shoot it. I also now have a complete wiring schematic for the entire car.
