View Full Version : Fuel Gauge Question

I have a '68 Camaro V8 with a standard fuel gauge that reads past full. If it were a clock it would read anywhere from 1:00 to 4:00. It does fluctuate depending upon how much gas is in the tank. I replaced the sending unit and checked the fuse. Is there a way to adjust the needle back between E & F? Do I need a new gauge? Do I have a wiring problem? Or is it something completely different? Thank you for your time. TGA

I'm thinking that when the tank is full, the sensor has a resistance of 90 ohms. When the tank is empty, the resistance is near zero. If I'm wrong please correct me.

If my assumptions are correct and it's just the F mark that is off, you could put a resistor in paralell with the sender (between the sender wire and ground). What I would do is get a variable resistor of about 1K ohms. Put the center wiper and one terminal between sensor signal wire and ground. Fill the tank, and ajust the potentiometer until it reads Full. Then replace the potentiometer with a fixed value resistance that measures closest to the potentiometers resistance.
