I have a previously installed Accel Super coil on my 383 Stroker that works fine (but the yellow on the super coil is terribly stained as far as looks go). Today in the local paper, I see a guy who has a new MSD 6A ignition for sale at $90, used about 3 weeks, then stripped the truck and sold it. The MSD 6A with the box it came in.
Is this a worthy upgrade and what else if anything would I need to make this change compatable?
Does it hook up similar to the super coil?
(Remember, I'm a rookie when it comes to ignition wiring, so go easy on me)
I searched this forum and found a lot of data - I'm just looking for something more honed to my application. thanks!

MSD stands for multi spark discharge. Instead of one spark each time a cylinder fires you get a couple. The 6A is compatible with points, magnetic trigger, or HEI ignitions but still requires a coil. If the instructions are still in the box it's a pretty simple task to hook up. You can download the instructions from their website also.

Normally the MSD-6A is around $150.00. So for $90, that's not a bad deal for a hardly used box.I have a MSD tech manual. It shows that your accel coil is compatible with the 6a box.

Thanks for the info.
What improvements would I stand to gain?

The MSD capasitive discharge will give you a hotter spark kernal at higher rpm's when the spark from a normal system starts to drop off. If you don't intend to race the car, you really don't need it.

FYI, I installed a MSD-6A system in a car with an old chevy v-8 (over 200,000 miles on motor) because it kept fouling out spark plugs from all the oil it was burning (valve seals going). I tell you what, I did not expect it but that system puts out enough juice that I no longer foul any plugs with that motor. I used to pull out 3 plugs (bad valve seals) and clean them at least once every two week. Great time saver. If it will help an old oil burner like that it will help a good engine even more. smile.gif

Thx for all the advice, guys.
I think I've decided against buying "used" electronics.
