Here's the deal. I bought this 67 from a kid in my neighborhood who needed bail money. Plain jane car (as far as I can tell). I paid $1000 for it.
He hacked on it pretty good,.. radio opening cut out for cheap modern stereo,.. huge 10"X12" hole for (God only knows what) in the floor shifter area,.. rear package panel cut for "Sparkomatic" speakers,.. behind the rear seat metal is missing,.. it had a 6 pt roll bar at one time,..
The wiring is completly hacked,..it has absolutely no interior (except a drivers bucket from what could be a mid seventies model),..
Otherwise,.. the body is straight and rot free,..the glass is good,.. the 350 did run when I bought it 8 yrs. ago. This car needs everything.
The question...... I bought it mostly for parts.. do I sell it cheap for parts OR knowing that it will probably cost more than it will be worth to resto, do I turn it into a quarter miler,(seeing as it will cost a fortune either way and I am interested in building a drag car).Or I could go Pro Street with it where you don't have to conform to originality... For the curious I can get the tag info to see if it is indeed one of the plain janes. I just hate to hack on an original, but I think the damage has already been done. I'm just looking for some feedback. What would you do? Thanks

Hmmm There's a couple of "key points" that you mentioned in your post...first, you said it's pretty straight and rot free, and second, you said that you kind of wanted to make a 1/4 miler out of it. Sounds simple to me: Check the #'s to make sure it's not some rare 67 Z-28 :D then stuff a big engine in there and go racin'. I would like to point out though...you probably wouldn't lose a dime if you brought the car back to life in nice driver condition. It's just hard to go wrong with real estate or a first gen Camaro ;)

Sounds good to me,.. I was just concerned about the irreplaceable missing sheetmetal parts affecting resale. I have the radio, and floor console metal from a shell I bought, but the package panel, and rear seat piece would be hard to get (without purchasing another shell), and the labor involved in the install of said pieces.
I think anyone in the 1st Gen camaro world would pick it apart upon resale. I must add that this is not the first Camaro for me. I had a clean 67 RS as my first car (which I sold for the prospect of marriage and a potential move)... I still regret that one... and am currently retoring a 68. This 67 is just sorta hangin around waiting for me to make a decision. Sounds like I have your support to race this one. (especially since I will soon have a nice driver).

383, with gas prices going the way they are, up,up,up, :( why not put a sixbanger in it, and use it as an everyday driver? When you feel the urge for HP, take out the 68 for a V8 "fix". Check out some boneyards out in your area, after all maybe those wrecking yards in Rancho in your area might have a rear seat bracing, you might just get lucky...or maybe another team camaro might have one gathering dust...good luck with your choice...Mike :D

zuma 1211, I thought about that and recently passed up the opportunity to buy a 250. Just seems to me to be too much invested (time and $) for an average project. You seem to be aware of our extensive "parts outlets" here in the valley.
Unfortunately the 1st gen camaros are a rare find,.. and if one ever comes in, you had better be the first one there to stake your claim, because they last about 1 day, with all of the other "Camaroheads" laying in wait. I agree with your thinking though.

I'll have the rear seat bracing sheetmetal available sometime around May? June? Out of a 68 car. Once I get this hunk home, I'll cut out what I need and pretty much make deals nobody could refuse on the remains. I'll post pics at that time so... A few months from now. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks Stevo, I may need it, I may not. I'll be here either way. I'll let you know.

See, parts are on the way. Money is just an obscure object we throw at cars anyway. It sounds like you are already for a trip down the 1320. I agree on the drag car idea as well as the fix er up idea. No, I'm not fickle.
