NO! Not for another wife! ;)
She clued me in on this '68 Caprice around the corner from us.

Not this one that's pictured below (I found that pic on the net), but one that's the same style and color. The Caprice around the corner from us has a white vinyl top also, and the body is in MUCH better shape. In fact, it's a LOS car! Mint I tell ya! All original inside and out, 327ci, A/C, automatic, straight as an arrow and all the trim\bumpers are there and practically flawless. There's some bondo, but I'm talking very minimal in two small spots.

I'm afraid to call the number that's on the windshield. 4-door Carpices in this kind of shape book at around $5000-$6000. She likes it though, so I HAVE to call sooner or later.

Whatta ya think?

Do it, Joe. I too have been thinking about a cool 4 door sleeper. Hmmm - can you say big block/4 speed?

It's all I've been doing since I went and looked at it... justifying buying it. She's always liked big cars and I've always wanted an Impala\Caprice. I let an excellent 2-door '69 Impala go last year because I had a hard time contacting the owner.
I'll give 'em yell today.

*UPDATE*

The guys wife told me he wants $2500 for the Caprice! We're scrambling to put the cash together NOW!!!

Car had not been started in about four months until last week when I moved out from under the shed to put a 68 Camaro in it's place and did not smoke at all when started. Car has PS,PB,AC,Speed Warning,AM/FM Radio, 12 bolt rear. OH AND FORGOT TO TELL YOU IT IS A FACTORY 396 C.I. CAR. And yes it is For Sale $3500.00 Swoffordwelding@bellsouth.net

Joe, BUY WAYNES! '69's got that nice "chiselled" look to the body, and a big car needs a BIG BLOCK!

Put a 427 in it. Make a nice graemlins/boring.gif . Think of the stuff you can haul in the trunk, about as much as a small pickup ;) .

$3500 for that '69? I'm having a hard enough time justifying $2500 for this one. Although, my folks live in Charleston, so they could shoot over there and take a look at it. ;) Yeah, right!

Right on Joe! I hope you get it and it works out good for you. Looks like a winner to me...Does it have the bench seat that takes both occupants to move it? :D I used to love cruising around in my sisters old 69 Impala. Just don't try to parallel park ;)

Yep! That 'couch' in front. ;)
Needs upholstery\carpet, head gaskets (burns coolant), A/C has some kind of problem. Has new brakes front\rear, exhaust, tilt, and 69900 original miles!
That's it from what I was told and saw. The guy said that the only reason it's still for sale and only $2500 is because as soon as he tells people that it needs a head gasket, they never call back.

sounds like a cool cruiser.
it is always cool to find an old car like that, and pop the hood and see everything still there. that usually tells you that the car hasn't been abused.
but, one has to wonder why the current owner won't invest $100 and a few hours of time to fix that head gasket if just doing that would make it worth so much more- might be a cracked block or head, but it also could be a bad intake gasket.
if a head or the block is cracked, just remembewr a big block with a 700r4 tranny with some 3.73 gears and a posi would make for a good cruising recipe with that car..
