I just purchased a '69 Z11 and discovered that the brake lights do not work. I pulled out the pedal switch, placed a jumper in the 2 wired plug but still no brake lights (with or w/out the key on). The plug has 12 volts on one side. Anyone have any more suggestions?

If you haven't already, you might want to check the voltage at the rear... maybe the bulbs are bad? Also in the truck is an actual break point (connector) for the harness. Make sure you have good contact there. Does you dome light come on at all? If not, this is a good sign that the harness is disconnected.
Hope this helps, if not more info would be great!

The tail lights and blinkers function at the rear, but no brake lights. This leads me to believe that the harness is connected to the rear. I checked the bulbs and they seem fine. Next, I will check the voltage at the rear for both the tail and brake light wires. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have tail lights and blinker, I would replace the brake pedal switch ... It may have an internal break ... If you want to test further, use ohm meter to test continuity from brake switch to tail light... Fabricate a long wire with a couple of alligator clips to you the necessary reach ... If you don't have continuity, look for an unplugged clip...

If the jumper across the brake light switch terminals on the harness didn't get you any brake lights, but the directionals work, it's not the rear harness or the bulb filaments. The circuit from the brake light switch runs through the directional switch - that's where the problem is.

JohnZ - can you tell me where the problem area in the wiring circuit could be?
I looked at the brake switch plug and followed the wires into a large harness, but from there I wasn't able to tell where it goes. Making an assumption - the wire (in the brake switch plug) with the 12 volts comes from a fuse(power) source, and the other will go to the rear for the brake lights. Let me know, thanks.

this might be kind of an obvious, but have you checked the brake light fuse in the fuse panel yet? my brake lights wouldn't work but my tail lights and turn signals worked...checked the fuse and it was blown now everything's fine. good luck

Sounds like a bad turn sig switch. The brake light circuit goes through there before it goes to the rear. Check output with a test light on the turn sig harness.
