I posted this topic a couple of weeks ago, but got no response, so I thought I'd try again. I'm rewiring my 69 and the column ignition doesn't work. I get power when I turn the key to "ignition on", but the "ignition start" position won't start the car. The car has had a push button ignition since I got it, but I want to switch back. The ignition cylinder is brand new, so I think the problem is in the wiring. I have the 2 wires that go from the harness to the neutral safety switch connected together, because I have no safety switch. My question is, do I then need to pigtail the wire that goes to the "ignition start" on the column and connect it to both the purple wire from the harness and directly to the starter solenoid, or is my problem somewhere else? I hope this makes sense, wiring questions are hard to describe.
Thanks in advance, guys!

Basically, The starter solenoid circut (purple wires) goes from the ignition switch (crank terminal) through the neutral safety switch, then out to the starter solenoid.
Without seeing what was done when somebody hacked up Your harness for the push button, it's tough to tell.
Hopefully they left a piece of the purple wire hanging out of the ing. sw. connector when they "performed surgery"...if not You will have to determine which terminal is the crank terminal on the switch....this can be done with a test light....
You want to run the circut from the crank terminal of the ignition switch to the neutral safety (and I do recomend using a neutral safety switch) and hopefully from there the original circut is OK out to the starter...
Give that a shot.....if Ya get stuck....just repost.....Good Luck...

The actual switch is located on top of the steering coloum, near the brake pedal, it is connected to the cylinder lock by way of a rod,
When you turn the key to the crank postion, does the temp light come on?
Yes- then you have voltage going into the switch and your problem is with neutral safety switch harness, see other post, If the light does not come on then I would think perhaps the ignition switch may need adjustment or could be faulty itself, Drop the coloum down, and gain access to the switch, do some trouble shooting to see if you have voltage going into the switch, Should be a large diameter red wire, test for voltage coming out when the key is in different postions, I think the output purple wire for the neutral safety switch circuit is also located on the switch.
You can jump the two purple wires together for now where the neutral safety switch was once located, after you acn wire in a new switch.
Good luck

Check to see that you have a wire (yellow) going from the starter solenoid to the coil. Without this the car won't start.
