I am putting the front harness in and i found a wire next to the wiper stuff that has the end cut off. it is a yellow wire but it isnt part of the wiper motor or pump. it is an extra yellow wire. does anyone know what this could be?

It sounds like the ignition wire that goes from the starter solenoid to the positive side of the coil on a points ignition. The coil is fed from the ignition switch through a resistor wire. The wire from the solenoid provided battery voltage to the coil while cranking the engine.

so if i dont use points but electric, then will i need this wire to hook up anywhere?

Big Block cars with TH400's used a yellow wire coming off the wiper motor input for the electric kick down. Was you car a BB possibly?

thanks for trying to help Panther but i believe this wire is the one that goes from the starter to the coil that gives it a boost when starting the car. the numbers match on the motor and car.

Beagle,

You don't need this wire at all if you are running an electronic ignition. Also, remember to eliminate the resistance wire that runs from the firewall connector up to the + side of the coil. This will kill the performance of an electronic ignition.
