I just put on a hurst backup sw,now what I need to know is,from the two spades on the sw,where do I wire to.I know there is a hookup on the firewall and that run thru the fire wall to under the dash.

The two wires for the switch ,would be a 12 volt line, that's hot with the key on,that goes to one side of the switch. The other side of the switch, needs a line to the rear backup lights.

I just hooked up my Hurst backup light switch to the shifter and I've got the same problem. I can't seem to find the existing backup light wiring under the dash. The wires coming directly out of the backup light sockets are light green and black, but I can't find those 2 wires under the dash. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Bill

What kind of trans did the car come with from the factory? Automatic? Manual? The easiest thing to do is to disconnect the wires from the original reverse light switch and wire to the new Hurst kit.

My '69 was originally an automatic. Now it's a 4 speed and the original reverse light switch is long gone. Where would I find the wiring, under the dash or on the firewall under the hood? Thanks! Bill

LOL, I just picked up one of the Hurst switches. My car was originally a column shift, and now is a 4 spd on the floor. I, however, know where the wires are because the previous owner put a toggle switch under the dash to turn on the backup lights LOL!

Two things can happen..A. trace the wires from the trunk up and along the drivers side, and under tHe door cover,by the driver's seat, then tap it from there to the switch..or
B. just run a new line back to the reverse lights ,and splice that in,
I admit both will take some time, and it may be just faster to run the new line, and be done with it,and if ya do,tape it up to protect it from shorting to the body. Have fun graemlins/waving.gif

The manual transmission switch is at the end of the steering column on the top. It is a curved contraption screwed into the column with two electrical spades on it. There should be two wires that would plug into it somewhere near there if they haven't been cut out.

Your firewall socket should have a pink 12v wire that is hot when the key is on and a light green wire that goes to the backup lights. If yours are these colors, for testing you can connect them together and your backup lights should come on. If they do, I think you can buy the correct socket to fit your firewall connection from first gen supply houses. When wiring the hurst switch, it doesn't matter which terminal each wire connects to. That switch just closes the connection.

Where do you get this hurst backup light kit? I have a hurst shifter, but I didn't get any wiring with it. Thanks, Dan graemlins/beers.gif

You can get the switch from Rick's. Any decent speed shop that caries Hurst should either have one or at least be able to order it for you.

I picked up a "harness" from FactoryFit with the correct GM connectors and enough wire to run it through the firewall or any other oriface on the car. Simple, simple, simple hook-up ;) My car was a three on the tree originally. I picked up a reverse light switch from Summit for around $25.

How does this switch mount? I have some sort of switch that is broken off in my tranny... Does this reverse light switch attach to the shifter somehow?

maybe this will help. It is the Hurst document that shows the switch. Hurst Shifter (http://www.mrgasket.com/hurstpdf/3737437.pdf)

Yes it does mount on the shifter. The shift stop bolt actually.
