The blower motor for my interior defroster/fan was rewired to a toggle switch over 16-18 gauge wire with a 20 amp inline fuse. When I turn the fan on after about 5-7 minutes the voltage supply wire starts to get a bit hot and I have to shut it down. Fan runs good with no bearing noises. I don't want to replace the wire with a bigger gauge if that isn't the problem but I have no idea what size wire I should have or what size fuse.

If I'm reading the diagram correctly, A/C cars have a purple 12ga and non A/C cars an orange 14ga positive feed.

I had a teacher who stated that engineering is being able to do for $3 what anyone can do for $5. GM would not run a heavier gauge than necessary. I try to copy, electrically, a lot of GM's practices.

If you are running 18ga that could be your problem.

You may want to try testing a heavier gauge wire from the battery to the switch.

Good luck
