I am in the process of wiring and installing an complete stereo system in my 1969 convertible Camaro. I just pulled out the original center dash speaker (yes it actually worked).
I want to use this space for a center channel speaker. I am looking for recommendations on speaker size for this area.

I have seen the two speaker system in the restoration catalogs but what about a 4X10?

You need to think in terms of the total system setup ... how many channels ... any amps, a sub ??? ... Minimally, you would expect to see 4 channels ( speakers ) and maybe a sub ... balance you speaker placement ... think in terms of pairs of speakers ( excl sub ... you can get by with 1 sub ) and some degree of symmetry ... A "center" spear is more of a home theatre term or application ... match your speakers and balance your sound ... good luck

I will be installing 5 1/4" components in the front and rear of the car with two 10" or 2 8" subs in the rear seat/trunk area.
I wanted to take advantage of the center speaker housing in my Camaro and use it as a center channel.

I have two 4 channel amps (50watts X 4). One will drive the 2 components and the center channel. The other amp will be bridged down to drive the subs (110watts X 2).
I know that if I upgrade to a DVD system that it will require a center channel.

I think I am going to go with a 4X10" in the dash.
This system should rock when completed.

darn man, I am envious ... sound like this thing is going to be rockin' ... I admit, a slick audio hook-up is just as great as some of the other mechanical and cosmetic hook-ups ... I hope it all come together for you ... you have given me a couple of new ideas ...

by the way, why not a 6 x 9 instead of the 4 x 10 ?

I measured the original speaker that was in the dash and it looked like a 4X10 would be just about the same size as the original.
6X9's may be to much for a center channel.
The Original dash speaker was about 5"X11.5"
I did consider 6X9's in the rear but components sound so much cleaner. It is a tough call.

I will be wiring the center speaker with one positive speaker wire from the left and one negative from the left. I am a bit concerned with the center speaker overpowering the front right and left but will have to try it before I go out and buy another amp and crossover Just to run a center channel.

The center speaker is 4x10. I'm putting in the 4x6 kick panel speakers, and the 2 speaker set up for the center dash for the 8-track radio I got. I knew my old tapes would come in handy, just had to wait 25 years.

i have one of those two speaker systems from the resto catalog...easy to install and the highs are incredible! they don't hold too much bass though.
