View Full Version : Relay?

I had a post out here a few weeks ago about my 67's intermittent no start problem.I thought after replacing the ignition switch my problems were solved,it hadn't done it for a week or so,where as before it was every day or two,but it happened again Friday. So while going over the wiring today I found a relay, that when disconnected, prevents the car from starting. It is right under the external voltage regulator on the core support. It has two "screw on"terminals, one is marked "batt",and has a red wire running to it,the other is unmarked, and has two black wires on it.It also has two "spade type" terminals on the bottom, each with a wire running to them.Any ideas? What is this called?I find no reference to it in any of my manuals. It appears to be quite corroded,I cleaned up the terminals the best I could hoping this would at least help temporarily, but it looks original and should be replaced.I suspect this MAY be the problem.I just want to know what it is so I don't have to walk into the parts store and ask for that "gizmo" on the core support. Thanks,Drake

It sounds like the horn relay although on my 72 it is on the firewall. I'm sure someone can tell you for sure.

It's tied into the ignition so that the relay will buzz when the car is off and you leave your keys in the ignition switch. You know, the sick cow mooooooooooooooo.........

It is indeed the horn relay. The small lead off the positive battery terminal goes to it, then feeds the rest of your electrical system.
