: Original side post battery cable

My car ('69 Z/28) isn't driven very much so I like to remove the neg battery cable (original side post) to save the battery. The first time I tried to remove the cable (the original), it would barely turn. I removed it and ordered a repo to put on. I have also since installed a cut-off switch to make it easier.
My question: Is there a way to 'loosen' the post connecter end? I tried using a small cut-off disk to 'groove' it a little, but it hasn't helped much.
I can take a photo and mail to someone if needed.
Thanks.

On a second note, the original cable also has a small cut in the insulation that exposes the wire. Is there a way to repair this?
