I have a 87 Z28 TPI swapped stock 305 for 350 and 700r4 trans car runs great except under a load or when shifting from 3rd to 4th.Car goes into limp home mode and shows bad ESC code on computer.I have replaced all sensors and EGR and ECM. Tranny is factory replacement and all components are for 350 except Prom.Any ideas would be helpful.

ESC is electronic spark control. Possible bad ignition module.

I just read your post again and I goofed when I thought ignition module. That would be 'electronic spark timing'.Esc is the knock sensor circuit. You have a code 43 correct? There are a few things to check voltage wise which will take me longer to type than if you just went out and bought the same book I have called "Chevy TPI FUEL INJECTION SWAPPER'S GUIDE" written by JOHN BAECHTEL.Page 98 and 99 explain the details.Great book.Another good book is "How to tune & modify Chevrolet fuel injection" by Ben Watson. You can get them at Barnes & Noble. These books will answer any fuel injection problem you have if you take the time to read through them. You'll never have to ask another fuel injection question on this site again!!! Hope this helps.Sure beats parts swapping and guessing.

The defective VSS could be causing problems too, repair that before you go any further.

If you have no fear, you're not going as fast as you could.

I checked all the voltages from the ESC to the ECM to the knock sensor and grounds using fuel injection manual by Haynes and Chiltons no luck I'll make sure to grab those manuals and try what they suggest local dealership went through long expensive plan of action but I declined.I have a feeling it's something cheaper than what they suggest. Replacing VSS saturday will get back with you if I find the problem. Thanks for all the help.
