2005 GTO VS 2005 MUSTANG GT, both with best options from factory for speed . 1/4 mile and 0-60.

If I hear right the GTO is a low 14 car and the GT is a high 14 - low 15 car.

My money is on the GTO. An '05 with 400 hp and 400 lb-ft torque it's pretty much a no brainer. Stock '04 GTO's are pulling high 13's.

A closer comparison would be an LT1 Z vs. an '05 GT

04 GTO vs. 05 GT Video (http://www.motordev.com/04goat_vs_05stang.wmv)

04 GTO = 13.59
05 Stang = 14.06

The late model 01-02 LS1 z's and Trans ams are actually quicker than the new GTO there running mid to low 13's I've heard of them even hitting very high 12's 100% stock

and here i was thinking that i had something to worry about with the new mustang GT's coming out. all my buddies said they would bash the hell out of me but that doesn't seem very fast at all. especially considering most of the ones around here don't even have skilled drivers behind the wheel.

Take a look over at LS1tech.com there are quite a few 100% stock 01-02 cars running twelves. From what I've seen theres quite a bit of factory freeks out there.

Sorry, I thumbed through the list and couldn't find a single documented stock LS1 running 12's.

unfortunately, the "new" GTO is hands down the fugliest "muscle car" ever produced. they got the horsepower right, which is nice, but thats where it stops.

when people say their "stock" LS1 powered Camaro is running 12's probably means mechanically stock- you know, nothing taken apart on the engine. to some people, adding exhaust and a cold air kit, and programming the computer doesn't make their car "modified" since the engine never got touched.
still, if all it takes to run 12's is an afternoon and $1000 for a cold air kit, exhaust and programming, that's pretty impressive.
i guess it all comes down to how literal you want to take things.

The did a terrible job at design on the "new" GTO other than those three letters, it has absolutely no styling cues from the 64-72's. graemlins/boring.gif
