I have a 68 Camaro with a 305ci engine installed. My problem is that whenever I start driving her, my red alternator light seems to stay on. I can look at the voltage indicator that i've installed under the dash and it's reading a full 12+ volts, so that tell me that it is trying to charge the battery. Someone advised to me that the battery itself may not be holding the charge that the alternator's sending to it. I have changed this battery out several times before and this problem still persists. If anyone who is reading this knows why this problem exists, please post it here. Any response will be truly appreciated http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif

Seems to me the alternator is bad or going. It should be charging 14 volts. They make a rebiuld ket for they about 20.00 bucks around hear.Any auto parts store should have it.Usally the light comes on because alternator bad or not able to put out the proper voltage.

When the red light comes on in my car, it's usally the regulator is bad or stuck.Your voltage meter should show around 14 volts, if the alternator is working through the regulator ok.

Thanks everybody for your responses. I tend to agree with you all. It looks like I am going to have to change out both the alternator and the battery. I have changed the battery several times, but every time I changed it, it was always with another uesd battery that had been repaired and recharged. I am going to change out the both of them (both alternator and battery) with brand new replacements.
