I feel around behind the dash and it feels like the tach has a plug with around 8 wires into it going into a bigger harness headed to the firewall. I'm not even sure if the old tach works since I'm on a dash mounted one right now that I'd like to dump. Anyway.... is the plug with multiple wires and what feels like a wire looping back to the tach going to the tach or the dash circuit board. I was hoping to only need to reattach the distributors tach wire to the tach but I don't feel any extra long posts to attach to. If it is a post for the tach wire... whats the position on the back looking from the passenger side or which ever side anyone cares to describe?

That's the wiring harness plug to the instrument cluster's printed wiring board that you feel. I think it's a 12 wire plug with most of the holes full if you have a tach.

Don't be surprised if the tach. doesn't work when you power it up. They are made out of mid 60's electronic components and really weren't that reliable even when they were brand new! There are a few guys out there that can rebuild 'em though.

I really want a miracle one of these days. Pulling the cluster doesn't seem like a miracle enviroment. I hardly ever go for broke so maybe I'll let my ears work as a tach. Listening for pieces of valves going down the exhaust is easy smile.gif
Thanks for letting me know PDQUICK.

I’ve got a torch! We can cut a port hole in the firewall so you can see it!
