I try to stay away from those factory "Mallory Unilites" (GM opticals). Seal the cap all the way up with clear silicone seal, make sure the rear seal is in good shape, because anything, anything will cause the light beam to over-fire, too many sparks from light being diverted and multi-firing, and overload, oil, moisture, corrosion.

I used to add a nylon screw-in hose fitting to the "cap" and run a hose up to the air inlet on the throttle body, so all adverse fluids would be pulled into the airstream and through the engine, to get same fluids and vapors out of the distributor area.

As far as I am concerned, GM did the ignition and owners a great dis-service by using optics and positioning it in a place ogf great hiding and inaccessability.
