The console mounted ammeter in my 69 Camaro doesn't work. So far I've had the console apart and verified that the two wires were connected to it, but can't figure out where the wire are supposed to end up. Anyone know?

the green one goes to your sending unit and the pink or red goes to the 12 vdc. just had the same problem myself. let me know if you need more help

Scott,
Thanks for the reply, but there is no sending unit for an ammeter based on the wiring diagram. There is a solid black wire and a black with white stripe out of the ammeter. If your car has a sending unit, can you describe it's location?
Thanks, George

George, sorry i was thinking of the temperature gauge....duh! i will get back to you on this, for i don't have my prints in front of me. i do know one wire goes directly to the voltage regulator, the other one i need to check on...... boy, i'm sorry about the mix-up. that lobotomy i got this weekend really did take hold!!!!

The black wire goes to a fuseable link that connects to the junction block behind the battery. The black/white wire goes to a fusable link that connects to the horn relay. Both wires should be 14 ga.

Kurt,
I checked out the wiring as you specified and it is all in place and unmolested. Nothing looks damaged, broken or questionable, guess the ammeter is the problem.
Thanks,
George

Finally figured out why my ammeter was showing no deflection. In order for it to work properly the wires from the ammeter to the battery and voltage regulator must have all perfect connections. Any poor connection induces too much resistance in the circuit and the ammeter won't respond to changes at all or very little depending on the connection condition. I found the connector between the firewall to be the problem on my car. I took it apart (yes it's tough to get to) and found that the terminals were tarnished and some copper sulfate was forming. After cleaning the contacts the ammeter works as you'd expect.
