Has anybody used a smaller or late model sending unit to their console water temp guage? My vortec heads require a smaller one and the one I got from chevy gives me no indication at the guage, and it is for a guage not an idiot light. I put my old sending unit(the correct one for console water temp) in the water pump to get an indication, but I'd like to have one that will indicate in the head. Any suggestions?

I have a sending unit from a '70 camaro with gages. It gives an indication, but I think it is reading low. An earlier post mentioned using a '69 sending unit and re-threading it to 3/8 NPT. I did this to a sending unit but have not installed it yet.

Hotrod69Camaro, Sorry, I can't help with your question but I am thinking of getting a set of vortec heads for my 327 and I was wondering how you like yours? I"ll be interested to see how your problem is solved as I will have the same one!

I just got it running sunday and an exhaust system yesterday took it out for a few blasts and all seems well but in addition to the temp sensor(which by the way I just put my correct sensor for my console guages in the water pump since I'm running no heater) but also if you are running a th350 trans you'll have to modify the kickdown cable bracket that sits on the 2 aft drivers manifold bolts. So I think they are good heads but they caused a few problems. If I was going to change just heads and not a complete motor I'd go with a set of aluminum trick flows but I think there angle plug and a whole new set of problems.

I had the same problem with my 67's temp sender. I looked through the catalogs for an electrically equivelent one but I could not find one. I ended up buying a new stock sender, grinding down on the bench grinder and re-threading it. It seems to work fine with no leaks!
