: Overcharging my battery

I have an Optima battery (red top, grey body, 800 CCA)that runs fine in my daily driver, a 69 chevelle. The problem is that when I put it in my 68 Camaro to crank the car, the battery starts to leak from the vent near the negative battery terminal after the car runs for several minutes. The car is running of the alternator but the alt warning light stays on.
I have just installed a new wire harness from Painless Performanc Products and a new elotronic voltage regulator(exactly the same as the one in my 69, no problem).
What could I have done wrong? I emailed optima battery and they responded that the only reason the battery would do that was if it was being overcharged.
I need help, I REALLY want to drive my new baby.(Bought it from a guy who had it parked in front of his parent's house for over five years, left a note and $700 later it was mine. Straight body plane jane with 327/PG and rust in the usual places. I just made a wrong/right turn cause I could not make a u-turn and there it was in the wide open calling me).
Please help.
Thank you all.

I bought a brand new voltage regulator and it went bad and undercharged the system. The reason I bought the new one is because the old voltage regulator overcharged my system and just about caused my battery to explode. Even a brand new voltage regulator brought me woes. I switched to an alternator with an internal regulator and haven't had a problem since.......

I agree with Bowtie. Convert to an internally reg altenator. Give Mark a call at MAD Enterprises. He sells a kit to convert from an ext to a internal reg that is a snap to install. He sells a kit to make your headlights brighter as well. Give him a call at (559)539-7128. Tell him John from Montana told you to call. Good luck!!
