This always baffles me, they are going for a lot more than it seems they should. Looking for others to chime into this discussion.

Ted - neither of your choices for answers work. If a clone of any car is done correctly it's a spendy thing. I don't consider a COPO clone a base camaro with a big block dropped between the fenders and dog dish hubcaps. If it's drawing big dollars it better have correct parts from the correct time frame. By the time you round up all the correct stuff and get all the details right the car is esentially what it's said to be a clone of, it just didn't start life as such. At that it is going to command big dollars.

Because of this you see wannabe's with stickers and trim items referering to their cars as clones. Some sellers of such cars get greedy and buyers of such cars are usually un-informed and end up learning of their mistakes at a later date. Many at that point will try to off the vehicle for as much as possible to recover there investment. Ethics or lack of becomes a big factor too...

A properly built COPO clone with dated components is not cheap to build so it's worth more than a plain Camaro but not as much as a real COPO. If a real COPO costs $100K then I would probably pay around $30-40K for a correctly built clone. Heck, the correct parts are probably worth $20K or more to someone with a real COPO.

You could say "you pays your money, you takes your pick".

Or maybe it is "A fool and his money are soon parted".

"We" as Camaro junkies know the value in terms of "what we would do/pay" but others who are less skilled/informed just vote with their wallet.

Why does a "COPO" Clone draw so much $ on eBay Because there will always be some idiot willing to pay someone else for it or pay for someone to do all of the work for them. tongue.gif

Real nice car. Did you notice that it's one of the secret 67 camaros that had the ultra rare air bag option. Driver, passenger, and side curtain air bags in 1967. Who says GM wasn't way ahead of it's time. Also found it exciting that the visor was signed by the one and only Caroll Chevrolet. That in itself makes this car worth the buy it now price of $100.00. Who could possibly believe this load of fecal matter.

I've thought long & hard about turning my car into a copo or ZL clone.

It would be easy & not too expensive if I wasn't worried obout number matching.

That being said, my car as it is is really not worth a whole lot on the market because it is a 6 banger car, even though it has the basic options needed for a "clone".

Maybe I should put it on ebay for $25K U.S. as an 'almost ZL1 clone' graemlins/clonk.gif

Who knows, someonr just might bite.

Paul - if you don't use the right parts it won't command the high dollars, it's value would be the same as other cars done to the same quality. It would most likely become the target of lots of negative comments for not having the right stuff. I think you know that though... By the way your 6 banger has a cool factor all it's own. Would it hold up to some boost? A turbo charger under that hood would shock folks at cruise ins...

Dennis,

The clone thing has just been a thought. An interesting thought, but also a fleeting one.

Now the Boost thing, that could easily become reality. I just have to get the chassis, brakes & suspension in order first. That part should be finished by spring.

My goal is to have the car handling well on the road couse, as well as run mid to high 14 second 1/4 mile times on Friday nights.

Then fiddle with a few engine ideas.

Paul,

Just saw your changes to your web site and the recent pictures with the 70 Z28 wheels. They actually look good on there but I was also hip to the dog caps you had on there before. They made it look more like a Copo or Yenko with those original wheels. Just add 427 badges to it and a poof it's a copo clone until you fire it up with that turbo 250.

Keep it original Paul. That car is worth its weight considering how original it is. Hope to see you at the Camaro Club Show and Shine and have a better look at that car.

Actually,

I have the dog dish caps on it again. Looks much better. (i'll have to update the pics)

I was at Willy's tonight with it, & one guy came running over thinking it was a COPO. :D

It's always nice to see the look on their faces when they see the lonely old single valve cover under the hood & the carb off to one side.
