: Dodge Ram SRT-10
paulm Apr 26th, 04, 12:28 PM I just saw that Dodge is putting the viper motor in a ram, that's pretty cool! 500HP 525TQ, but it's only supposed to run the 1320 in 13.6?
45k is the MSRP, kind of pricey.

paulm Apr 27th, 04, 12:40 AM I wonder if chevy will come out with a truck to compete with this and the lightning?
Everett#2390 Apr 27th, 04, 01:09 AM Last Sunday's NASCAR race, Aaron's 499, pace truck was a Dodge SRT/10.
Dodge came out with this idea about 18 months ago. Twenty inch tires, 6-spd, bed wing, Viper V10, full power, and, be sure you're sitting down, MSRP of $56K, maybe even a dealer's market adjustment could be added on.
However, a dealer advertising in Hemmings, will sell them for $46K. Wouldn't it be nice to get a "stripped" SRT/10? Manual door locks, windows, rubber matting, radio delete, no P/steering, no traction control, and fiberglass hood & fenders? Sounds like the Stockers from Mopar of the '60's.
Ford's F-150 Lightning or 2003 H/D truck is more affordable, does what I like, and GM's Silverado SS doesn't come close to anything.
Matt R Apr 27th, 04, 01:15 AM Chevy has a decent motor. I could see a short box, regular cab with the 8.1 L (496 cid) V8 :D
Give it a nice old school L88 style or stinger vette style hood. ;)
Matt
novaderrik Apr 27th, 04, 08:23 AM of all the trucks in that "class", the Silverado SS is supposed to be the most usable of the bunch- the Lightning and the SRT 10 are faster and corner better, but the SS has AWD and an actual truck-like cargo carrying capacity.
but they still should have made the AWD and extended cab body options, as well as offered a manual tranny and no power options standard.
paulm Apr 27th, 04, 08:29 AM Ya, I like Everett's idea!! Stripped down race truck! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Motor Trend said it would do 12.8 or something. Where do these guys get their data. They must plug it into a simulator or something. Dodge didn't do anything to address the HUGE traction issue that the Lightnings and SRT-10's have. With a 6spd, that thing's just gonna roast 'em all day long. They said the Lightning should be good for those times too, but I have yet to see a stock Lighting go faster than a 14.1X.
Now that all wheel drive prototype that GM had in Hotrod last year, that would be awesome! 400rwhp/rwtq, 6.0L LS6 top end. graemlins/hurray.gif They addressed the traction issue (4WD), put a Tahoe (4-link) suspension in it, and still left room for a hp junkie to put a super/turbo on it.
If they would only make it! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

paulm Apr 27th, 04, 08:45 AM Really, lightnings only run low 14's stock? I thought that they were faster than that! I see them at the track whenever I go, but I guess I've never checked out their times.
The trucks that I always watch out for are those big 4 door, 4 wheel drive, longbed goofy deisel pickups. Some of those trucks really run fast. I try never to line up with one as once I had one next to me run a high 12. I remember looking over at him and thinking Ya right and then saw nothing but tail lights... graemlins/sad.gif
gr868 Apr 27th, 04, 09:18 AM I remember that truck Paul! That same night, I raced a stock red Chevy SS truck in my stock Dodge Ram 1500 HEMI. I would have beat him too, if I wouldn't have redlighted. graemlins/clonk.gif

paulm Apr 27th, 04, 09:28 AM Damn, I was hoping that you would have forgotten!! :D graemlins/sad.gif
rojo Apr 27th, 04, 10:25 AM GR868, what kind of times is your Hemi running. (1/8 if you know)
Have you guys seen the new SRT10 commercial where various car and truck doors are flying through the air, landing on porches, in pools, etc. Then a SRT10 pulls up with one of the Nascar boys climbing out. Then all the vehicles that got their doors blown off ride by and wave at the guy.
camcojb Apr 27th, 04, 11:10 AM MOST stock Lightnings run 13.50-13.80 stock at sea level. There are a few that have run 13.20's and a few that run 14.0's to 14.10's. but the average stock truck will run mid to high 13's.
Jody
paulm Apr 27th, 04, 12:45 PM The local dealer by my house has two SRT-10's! I think I'll go take a look at them when I get home on friday!! :D
Toad Apr 27th, 04, 04:42 PM Yeah, the track here is about 3000ft. above sea level, so the lightnings here tend to run slower. I'm not impressed by the Lighting, a rcsb supercharged 5.4L should be a lot faster. Even at my track. I'm not a Ford guy, but I can't wait till they come out with a 500+hp version, then all the Dodge guys will have to eat it. The traction issues still aren't solved with either truck though.
Paul, let us know what you think of the SRT-10.
Let the truck wars begin!!!

Let the truck wars begin!!! You're not impressed with a 4800 pound truck with a 330 cid V-8 and only 8 psi of boost that runs 13's stock? I'm saying you're hard to please! LOL!!!!!!
Jody :D
paulm Apr 28th, 04, 12:43 AM I found a couple of things about the dodge that will make it difficult for me to buy. It only gets 5 MPG and the bed wing isn't removable. I could maybe get past the poor mileage thing, but I would at least like to use the bed once in a while to haul stuff. I'll look at it and see though.
Everett#2390 Apr 28th, 04, 01:34 AM After doing a test drive, let us know the sticker shock and its driving characteristics.
I'd really hate to have to replace my paid-for 88 Chevy Dually, Std Cab, 454/TH400/3.73.
paulm Apr 28th, 04, 02:35 AM Do you think they'll really let me test drive it? One look at me and they may not trust me taking their truck around the block! :D
Everett#2390 Apr 28th, 04, 03:08 AM That's what I told my wife when she went to look at the new Nissan 350Z. She looked the General Manager straight in the eye and said, "I never bought a car without test driving it first."
"I'll be right back with a tag, Ma'am," he replied. Off they went for a test drive. I believe it to be the first in this area as Nissan dealers here where not allowing test drives for this model. Twenty minutes later, we signed the paperwork.
We were both wearing blue jeans and a T-shirts on a Saturday AM. She drove up in her 300ZX TT and I in my truck, as we had errands to run later.
One never knows. I just want to know the sticker price.
paulm Apr 28th, 04, 03:26 AM The sticker is over 50k as they have added dealer stuff (I got that much over the phone)!
Jeff H Apr 28th, 04, 03:32 AM There are Lightnings running in the mid to low 12's at Englishtown with only 1 or 2 mods. The SRT10 is severely traction limited because Dodge didn't plan out the whole package very well so a Lightning will destroy one due to better traction. GM isn't even in the ballgame with the Silverado SS. They need to go to a standard cab rear wheel drive to even hope to compete. But those trucks costing over $40K is ridiculous and not even worth talking about. These "sport" trucks shouldn't cost more than $30K since they're standard cab shortbed 2 wd trucks.

I understand about the pricing Jeff. The Lightning stickers at $33.5K or so, but can be purchased brand new for less than $29K if you look around. The new 03's left on the lots have gone as low as $26,500. Pretty good bang for the buck.
I know I sound like a Ford lover, but I do enjoy my Lightning. I really am a performance lover, and Chevy doesn't have anything at this time to compete with the Lightning. I did order an SS before the Lightning but when it arrived and I saw the lack of performance I changed my mind.
Jody
paulm Apr 28th, 04, 04:30 AM I agree, it sounds like the Ford is by far the best value!!!
I'll still go look at the dodge, but there are too many downsides to it in my book.

Not sure about 1/8, and don't remember the exact numbers for the quarter, but it was (edit - oops, not 14.5x but rather) 15.5x and very low 90's mph.

speedy-Z Apr 28th, 04, 05:27 AM The Dodge SRT set top speed world record ( for production truck) of 155.132 mph but could only get 154.587 mph going in the opposite dirrection so it stands at 154 mph. Thats why dodge is advertising it as the worlds fastest production truck. Both the dodge and ford trucks are really fast. No better feeling then walking away from some kids hot rod with a full size truck. I just love the look in their eyes when their thinking see-yah and you mash the peddle and walk on by effortlessly. Just like everything eles alot of money equals alot of fun. I guess the game is how much fun can you afford.
Jeff H Apr 28th, 04, 05:53 AM I thought the new Lightnings were over $40K with around 500 hp but I guess that is the 2005 model I hear about. For the low $30's, the Lightning has to be the best performance vehicle out there. The added bonus of having some utility of a pickup is nice too. I see slightly used ones for sale around here in the mid $20's. I have no problem with anyone liking the Lightning, it's a true performance truck with real performance. Dodge is way out there with a $54K truck. The Silverado SS is an even bigger joke starting at $40K. My 91 SS454 is a dog compared to todays technology. But I bought it for the towing capacity of 10,000 lbs and it was a used vehicle I could afford.
paulm May 2nd, 04, 10:35 AM Went and looked at the truck today!
MSRP of 45k + a giant dealer added bump (that didn't add anything to the truck except jack the price) for a total of 58k!!
Mileage was listed as 9 to 15 and the spoiler thing comes off with four bolts! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I'm not going to pay 58k for the truck, but my buddy's dad retired from chrysler and may be able to get me a break on the price. We'll see what he can get it for.
Oh, I didn't even ask to drive it. There was no way I'd pay 58k, so why waste their time.
ZZ430DropTop67RS May 2nd, 04, 11:22 AM Awesome truck. I saw this one at a cruise yesterday.

Everett#2390 May 3rd, 04, 01:41 AM Thanks for the sticker shock. There is a dealer advertising in Hemmings selling these for MSRP. You might try him also.
Michael Foster Mar 21st, 11, 06:45 PM Do you know guys where to get good dodge ram parts (http://www.carpartswholesale.com/cpw/dodge-car-parts.html)? I've been told by my uncle to find some parts for him. If you guys know anything let me know. Thanks.
