: Covan's Dash
pwoolford Mar 14th, 03, 10:52 AM I read a couple past posts about Covan's dash and it sounded nice but not very sturdy. Anyone else have experience with this dash? I really want to get the autometer speedo and tach in the dash and adding the other guages would be a nice bonus. Thanks in advance,
Phil
NASTY69 Mar 14th, 03, 12:30 PM i just put mine in today...It took a little convincing, but i was able to line up the holes, and I bought my own auto meter guages and wired it to the painless kit it looks good but you do need to be careful with the dash insert.
pwoolford Mar 14th, 03, 03:11 PM NASTY69, Do you have any pics of the finished dash? It sounds like I am in the same boat. I have new autometer gauges and am 1/2 way through the painless kit. thanks, Phil

Or to anyone else who has a Covan dash... I have a 69 Chevelle and am thinking about putting a Covan dash in it (I've talked to them and they said one is in development). I also have the same concerns pwoolford had about the thickness and sturdiness of the ABS plastic...
How thick is the plastic? Are we talking disposable cup thick, milk jug thick, plastic binder thick, or lunchbox thick? My bezel in my Chevelle is plastic and it's not super sturdy to begin with, but I don't want to be worried about denting it if I bash it with my knee or something...

pwoolford Mar 14th, 03, 03:34 PM NASTY69, What did you do for turn signals and high beam light?
NASTY69 Mar 14th, 03, 09:32 PM I went to a local parts store and got a couple of green lights and mounted them on each side and a red one for the high beam. sorry i do not have any pics yet
CrossRamZ11 Mar 16th, 03, 01:53 PM If you would like to see more pics of the dash installed, you can see them here:

The dash took a small amount of massaging, but looks and works extremely well. There is no issue with the sturdiness of the piece. I had a ton of compliments on it....and the price is hard to beat IMO. smile.gif
RAY NORLIN Mar 16th, 03, 06:12 PM Cross Ram,
Are those Lokar brake and clutch pedals in your car? If so do you know the part # and did you have to modify the pedal to get them to fit. I have the gas pedal and would like to add the others but they don't seem to have anything to fit a '69 Camaro.
Thanx, Ray Norlin
CrossRamZ11 Mar 17th, 03, 08:50 AM Hi Ray,
Yes they are the matching Lokars. I don't have the part numbers handy, but if you go to Lokar.com, you can view the catalog and get them from there, that is what I did. Keep in mind that there is a automatic pedal (Large) and if you have a manual, you have to order 2 brake\clutch pedals for a late model truck, due to the smaller pedal size. This IS called out in the catalog. They screwed right on in about 5 minutes with no modifications, I really like them.
Good Luck.
p.s. I can send you the catalog if you like, just shoot me an e-mail.
RAY NORLIN Mar 17th, 03, 05:10 PM Cross Ram,
I really appreciate the info. I had tried the 55-57 pedals as well as the universal pedals. Both types required cutting the pedals to fit which I did not want to do. Will order the ones you suggested. Your car looks magnificent.
Ray
PS You live in a beautiful state. My wife and I have enjoy it's wonderful scenery numerous times.
