I found a AM/FM radio in some boxes of parts that came with my 67. The tags are missing from it and the only number is on the faceplate which reads 7298474. It has a plug on the right rear bottom looks to have about 9 pins and resembles an old tv tube socket. The numbers on the faceplate are green and there is a partial tag on the right rear side model# is 7 then ser. # 41FP or 41EP it is ripped so the rest of the model and ser numbers is gone. Any clue as to if this is a 67 or 68? The face plate is angled for the dash and has to be either camaro or firebird.
Thanks

If the 1st digit of the model number is a 7 then it is a '68 unit-'67 AM/FM model number is 986824. '68 Camaro is 7303241, FB 7305582. The Camaro unit has a tinted lens, FB is clear. Both '68 units have FM AM on the lens, '67s do not. The faceplate housing should have the dash mounting pads on it. They are frequently cut off for installation in another car.

Hope it works-they can be expensive to repair.

William is right about the description. a picture would help to verify.

The small plug (9pin) in the bottom of the radio is where the multiplex (stereo unit) would plug in. If you dont have a stereo unit there should be a "jumper plug" in the socket. Without it the radio will not work. New ones can be purchased or the socket can be bypassed to be used without one.

Restoring a radio can be costly if the radio is severely damaged, but is fairly reasonable from most restoration shops. My company is currently running an August sale where the restoration of an AM/FM radio like yours would only cost $95.00 (Plus the cost of the jumper plug if wanted- $30.00). Your best bet is to shop around and find a shop you are confortable with, meets your budget and has experience.

I just snapped some pics of my original AM/FM. See pics below. I picked up a 9 pin adapter, and didn't know what it was, now I know. Thanks guys for the info. But, I still want to return the radio into the mulitiplex, I think it was. Four speaker and the wiring is here, but missing the multiplex.

Is there any information that can be revealed looking at the model/serial number tag?

Model # 986824 is for a 1967 Camaro.

It may be the way the picture was taken, but is the chrome faceplate missing?

I took the faceplate off to clean it up some. I may have someone restore my radio for me. It is really filthy inside and I also want someone to check out all the resistors and stuff to make sure it will work for a long time.

The plug that goes in place of the multiplex harness (no multiplex installed) seems to only have 9 pins on my '67... The plug on the radio DOES have 12 though...

Here's a pic of a 67 am/fm radio side, and a pic of a 68 multiplex side, they don't mate, and probably a good thing to look for when shoppin' at the flea market . . .

I kind of figured that... Yes, that is what my '67 looks like. I can take a pic of the "adapter plug" used w/o multiplex, if anyone wants.

What I would like to know is the pin out of that 12 pin connector! I would like to maybe figure out how to wire up more than one speaker and "stereo" to my AM/FM.

I powered it up the other day. The radio played both AM and FM very well! I am still trying to decide weather or not to put it back in my '68. Weighs a ton and my car is not entirely numbers correct... Back in the day, it was all about speed. Now, after putting all the missing brackets and other pieces back on, my car probably weighs 300 lbs more than when I bought it!
