Did the bucket seats on a 1969 Camaro always come with headrests? I don't think 67 and 68 models did. If they did, is it possible to use 67 seats and recover them with 69 covers and add a headrest?

If they did, is it possible to use 67 seats and recover them with 69 covers and add a headrest? Unreal Apr 5th, 03, 12:29 AM Headrests became mandatory in Jan 69; The seat back on 69 (and I think, 68 as headrests were and option. was stamped to accept the headrest post. In addition, there is a plastic guide that gets installed before the seat covers. I am not sure if the rest of the seat is the same as 67, but if it is, why not just get a set of 69s and put 67 covers on them. I suspect you can pick up a set of 69 seats for about $100. artsylmk Apr 5th, 03, 02:43 AM I am actually looking for 69 seats. The interior I am looking at has 67 seats. I have found some 69 seats in good shape for 175.00. Don't know if that is a lot but I am lloking at 69 seats. Unreal Apr 5th, 03, 06:17 AM If they are local, and you don't have to ship them, that would make them more valuable to me. Also the fact that you can look at them and judge their condition, adds more value. If they include headrests in good shape (no cracks or dents) then they would definately be worth it. Just my 2 cents, or more correctly my 17,500 cents. artsylmk Apr 5th, 03, 06:41 AM They are not local and shipping would be around 50.00. I was sent pictures of them and they seem to be in good shape but they will need to be recovered. How much would you pay for the rear seats? is the rear seat the same fit as a 67 and 68 car? Unreal Apr 5th, 03, 10:54 PM They seem to go on ebay for around $100. Do a search there for "completed items" or "closed items" ...can't remember which it is called. 69X11SS Apr 8th, 03, 10:31 AM The 69 buckets are getting harder to find in any kind of usuable condition because the tracks and slide lock rust up and people break and bend things to try to get them to work. So, if the mechanisms and structure are solid, the price you are looking at is not bad even with the extra for shipping. The condition of the upolstery and foam should not concern you because you'll probably have to replace those. There were two types of headrest available in 69 the early ones had a straight bar and the later ones had a curved bar which leaned the headrest slightly forward to a more comfortable position. I don't recall when the changeover was. The rear seats are the same frame for each type of 1st gen. The deluxe interior and convertable rear seats are different (narrower) from the standard interior ones as well as the difference in the frame for the rear fold down option. So , the key is to know what type of interior you have/want and what seats you have or need. You can repair the springs, replace the foam and recover the seats if you have the patience. I did the seats in the 69 and the 75 and after a lot of sweating and cussing, they turned out great. It is just a matter of what you are willing to tackle yourself and what you want to farm out and pay for. I am kind of a middle of the road guy. I pay big money for parts but save some dough by doing the work myself. Good Luck Blk69 Apr 9th, 03, 07:24 AM I have sean complete 1969 interiors (with back seat) go for $200 in well used condition at the Springfield Auto Swap meets in SpringField Ohio. I paid $80 for a 1968 firebird rear seat and side panels (needed it to make arm rests in my 69 Camaro rear). |
