: Shoulder Belts in my '67

HI everyone!!..

Is there an easy way to get shoulder belts in my '67.

Granted I have my RCI 5pt harnesses with my Recaro seats, but it does get tedious having to strap up all the time.

My only personal alternative woul dbe if I could get a regular belt/shoulder harness in my car. I don't like just having lap belt if I was to go to regular seat belts when not at the track.

Thanks,
David

June 01 issue of Super Chevy has a how to on installing a 3 point belt to 1st Gen camaro's. They look close to original and mount to the original spots with minimul modification. They are around $260.00 from Pony Concept Cars.

I just ordered a set for my '68 but my car has the mounting points for shoulder belts up in the roofline under the headliner. the previous owner just installed the headliner over them but they are still there. Do you have them in your '67?

Is that price for a set as in enough to do the passenger and driver or just one side. The ad wasn't clear on that. If it is for one(alot of money), has anybody done conversions with more modern belts?

Has anyone put shoulder belts in a convertible first gen?? Did any convertible first gens come with them from the factory?

Well, I read the article. Looks like they won't work on my car. I have an early '67, so I don't the attachment spots upon the roof. (ordo I? I can't feel them, and the new headliner was done beforeI bought the car.).

I think I willl keep my harnesses for now..

I believe they were an option. If you have them under your headliner (as I do) you'll be able to find them easliy enough. if you cant feel anything under there then you're probably out of luck i'm afraid.

Well...

I may be in luck with the shoulder belts after all! Finally had time to play with the car tonight. I felt along the headliner, and on both the driver's and passenger side, I can feel a piece of metal that has three holes...two small ones on the out side, and one a bit bigger in the middle.
The metal seems to have a rectangular shape.

Is this the belt attachment point?

If so, looks like I'll get my "Real" seat belts.

Sounds like you're in business there 67LT1, those are the mounting points. I'm still waiting for my belts from the Pony Concepts place mentioned in Super Chevy.I hate it when they bill your card and then keep you waiting two weeks to ship the goods. Hopefully they'll be good enough to make me forget the wait. =)
Are you going for the same ones?

Yes, I just got off the phone with Pony Concepts. Talked to Darrin (Darren?).
I'm going to be ordering these.

I asked him if all the '67 hardtops had the upper mounts under the headliner whether or not the car came with the option. He said yes.
So, based on that info, it looks as if their system will work with all of our first gen cars.

Great! I didnt realise they all had the mounting points. It'll be nice peace of mind to finally have shoulder belts. Those lap belts make me nervous. =)

I don't like lap belts by themselves either.

But since I sometimes have my wife or daughter in the car, I just kept my RCI 5pt harnesses in their that I use at the track.
Of course, track time is about 2% of the cars useage, and it was getting to be a pain in the you know what to have to "mount up" everytime we just wanted to go for a spin, and then have limited movement when all strapped in.
Funny thing: when strapped in with my harnesses, I cannot reach the radio controls http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif So, I made sure to put my ALpine with the remote control in this car http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

Anyway, having "real" seat belts will greatly enhance the pleasure driving aspect of my car for myself, but more importantly my wife, who will probably be more ameneable to taking rides with me.

Cheers and thanks to those who pointed me to the article in the first place!
