Hi All:
Two questions here....I'm planning on re-painting the top of my dash in my '68 convertible. I'm going to use the eggshell black that Classic industries sells. I'm wondering if anyone has used this product and if so how they like it. I've only seen one post on it and it was positive. Will one can be enough?? Question #2 - has anyone tried to paint the top of the dash by masking off the dash pad? Mine is raised off the dash slightly so I think I can paint under it to a certain extent. If the dash pad must come off, how big of a job is it?? It's the removal of the gas gauge and spedo to get to the nuts under the dash that concerns me.....Deep down I know the right way to do this job is remove the pad but I don't want to get into a mess....
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks very much
Dan S.

Take off the dash pad. I don't think you will be happy with the results if you don't. You'll probably have to remove the gauge cluster, glove box liner, and a couple of other odds and ends to get the pad out. If it's an original pad, be really careful removing it. They're made out of 35 year old vinyl and crack pretty easily. The two metal posts that lock the sides of the pad down to the dash can be a pain to get out too. Sometimes they tear out of very old dash pads. Be careful and take your time.

Thanks PDQUICK..that's the way I am leaning. One other question, does the radio and heater unit have to come out to get to any of the nuts under the dash pad??? Just looking at the pad it seems like one giant PITA to get out......

I'm not sure if the radio has to come out? I think that there is one nut on either side of it so you might not have to pull the radio.

And your right it is one giant PIA!!

I pulled the cluster, the radio/heater control, and the glove box liner out to remove my 67 dash pad. It was still a beast to get those little nuts loose.

Did the dash pad today. Not too bad after a dozen or so swear words...sometimes that helps. Removing the gauge cluster is the biggest pain in the A**. I'm going with a new pad from Rick's. They sell two "versions" and I'm am going with what is allegedly their better one. I can let everyone know what it looks like when I get in if anyone is interested.
