I was wondering if anyone has used the vinyl dye on a kickpanel, i am rennovating my interior and the red plastic is a bit faded. Just wondering if it would hold up or if it would all chip away during installation and use. graemlins/clonk.gif Speaking of, if anyone has some good advise on making the 67 non-a/c kick panels go in easy, it would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

I've used vinyl dye on many pieces and never had any problems at all. As long as it's applied in light coats, it looks like the piece was molded in the new color and holds up nicely, even if scratched, like a kick panel might get. Great product.

I also have used the dye on both door panels and kick panels. There is a "plastic" or flexible primer I used. And indeed you need to do very thin coats of the dye. I did a bright blue over black and it still is in good shape.

graemlins/thumbsup.gif on the rustoleum vinyl paint. Worked great in the 69! On the 67 the kick panels were much easier to get in and out than on the 69....don't ask me why.
My installation procedure is to get the bottom part into the vent opening and then whack the upper part. They seem to pop in everytime! Then you just have to work the long skinny part over the door opening edge.

As far as install goes, the pass. side is a piece of cake comparatively speaking. The drivers is a little tricky. I fought it for a little while with just the bolt that holds the parking brake assembly to the dash removed, but still not much luck. I removed the 2 bolts that hold the parking brake assembly to the firewall and it gave me a ton more room. It just popped right in. It's only 2 more bolts, and it would have saved me a lot of cussing.

Yup, was nothing worse than fighting against the parking break, getting the panel popped in then finding that the vent door popped loose.

ahh yea, i love doing most everything twice! I have the car basically gutted (including the parking brake) so when i finish up the front carpet i figgure the kick panels shouldn't be horrible. Thanks again

I dyed my kick panels with Dupli-Color vinyl dye. It looks great. It will scratch... but is easy to touch up.
