View Full Version : Standard to Deluxe interior
Balboni Dec 2nd, 02, 07:45 AM I am going to convert my 1969 standard interior to delexe interior. I am planning on purcasing the deluxe kit from Classic Industries. Are there any issues that I should be aware of before I do this? I understand that the door handles are different. Are the seats different? What else do I need besides the kit and the door handles?
Thanks Jeff
doverwht69 Dec 2nd, 02, 08:07 AM I believe the window regulators will need to be changed as well. The length of the shaft is too short on the ones used on standard interior for the cranks to go on.
Also, you may have to drill a couple of holes for the door pulls.
Good luck with it. I'm just finishing up putting a new deluxe interior kit from Classic in mine. But it had a deluxe interior to start. Wasn't too tough of a job. But I am gonna let someone else do the headliner.

doverwht69 Dec 4th, 02, 07:38 AM Hi Tom-
Sorry to reply so late.
We live in Parkview which is not too far from Eaglecrest High School. I work at Centennial Airport and have driven it to work a few times, but mostly just in and around the immediate area.
Where in Littleton do you live?

Go69 Dec 5th, 02, 04:14 AM Guys, you do NOT have to change out your standard window regulators-you can modify the standard regulators to work with the deluxe panels very easily and inexpensively without even removing them from the door!!!!!
If interested, e-mail me and I can explain the procedure...

Go69 - Why don't you just post your conversion? You've replied to several that you'd send something. If it's in print here you and others can just link to it and say try this...

Go69 Dec 7th, 02, 11:42 AM Dennis,
I have responded to everyone that has e-mailed me, generally in the same day, as long as it was not on a weekend, and described in fairly good detail how I went about it. I responded to two e-mails this past week alone.
Further, if you will use your SEARCH function in the upper right hand corner, you will find that I posted the process in the past. Instead of sending people on a goose chase looking for the information, I simply ask that you e-mail me and I will send you the information.
If you would be interested in hosting the information somewhere, that would be awesome. I could put together some pictures, and detailed instructions as opposed to the simple typed directions that I have now.
Thanks for helping moderate a wonderful site.

I tried to find your information using search; can't find it anywhere!
Maybe it's in a different forum?

I don't see what's the big deal. Please post your information. Afterall, it has to be easier to post once rather than email half a dozen times. Thanks.

Jeff,
I considered this on a 68 only I was going the other way. The rear seat is shorter on the deluxe due to the arm rests built into the rear side panels. A convertible seat is the same length I believe. As I mentioned the rear panels are different and you'll need the metal frames that the rear armrest coverings mount to as well as the insulation/foam that goes on the metal arm rest frames. The front seats will need the correct seat foams for deluxe covers. The door handles are not the only difference, I believe the mechanisms are different, because the standard uses a splined shaft and a clip on the handle to hold it in place, the deluxe handle has two screws if I remembe right holding it onto a shaft that goes to the mechanism. Your side window fuzzies may be different with the deluxe interior also. On the 69 your dash treatment is different with the woodgrain and the hand hold for the passenger. These are just off the top of my head what I remember.

Go69 Dec 10th, 02, 04:39 AM One of the other members e-mailed me directly and has graciously agreed to host the information. I was told that I should be receiving a link this week. As soon as I get the link, I will post it here.
I added some pictures along with the typed out steps so hopefully it will be easier for those interested in doing the mod to understand.

mebe_epp Dec 11th, 02, 12:38 PM as far as the std to deluxe interior swap the only problem that I see is you better sit down before you look at the price of deluxe interior part's !!!
I was tickled pink when I got my 67 and saw that it had deluxe interior , that is till I went to check on new door panel's mine are cracked and need replaced , $300 plus buck's for the two front door panel's (BARE) seat cover's double $$$$$ it would take over $1000 to restore a deluxe interior !!!!! had my car three year's and no door panel's in sight , or seat cover's in sight , std door panel's are on sale at rick's $69 buck's just plain crazy ain't it ,

Blk69 Dec 23rd, 02, 08:03 AM Is you had access to a welder, couldn't you just cut your old window crank stub (what the hand crank attaches to) and weld in a piece that will extend the stub to the lenght you need. It will be all covered by the crank and the door panel so it need not be pritty. Just a thought.
RickB1B Dec 24th, 02, 06:53 AM Dennis, why don't you host this in the Tech section of this site.
