I'm currently installing a rear fold down seat from a 68 donor car. I've got some goodreference measurements from some previous posts and I even have the donor car to measure. Currently, I don't have the cardboard/vinyl partition, but I've been told it measures 14" high at the center. Will that thing finish flush with the top of the well liner on the convertible? Or will it be down a little from the top? Anybody have a picture they could post?
Thanks guys. T

Just happen to have a pic of mine, the cardboard had a finished edge on top of it with a stich thru it. The package tray cover tucks under the cardboard and screws go thru the big bell washers into the metal seatbacking. This is for a coupe. Hope someone has convert pics incase they are different.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Click. I guess they do finish about an inch lower than the top of the seatback support. I don't know if the convertibles look the same. I know my donor car is a coupe and it finishes like yours. I would guess the convertible would look similar in that it wouldn't stop flush on top. My original temptation was to have it stop flush on top, but original appearance is most important. The reference drawing I got doing a search shows the convertible being a 1/4" lower than the coupe. Hopefully someone with a convertible will chime in. Thanks again for the picture. T

T (and anyone else interested...)

When I did the research on the Fold Down Rear Seat YEARS ago, I went to a wrecking yard that had literally hundreds of first generation Camaro's!! (Since then he's gotten out of the business and sold his entire inventory to a guy in the L.A. area. Not sure of the name or just what's left, if anything. But this was a few years ago...)

Anyway, I was able to look at 3 Convertibles and 5 Coupes that originally had the fold down seats, and I noticed that NONE of them matched each other (Coupe to Coupe or Convertible to Convertible)!! Each one was just a hair off from the other one. Nothing huge mind you, but enough to tell that this was an option that was installed by a human!

Now, as for the Convertible measurement you mention that's 1/4" off the Coupe's, it's only because the Convertible "package Shelf" is about 1/4" higher than the Coupe's. The placement of the Partition Track itself is just above, almost level, with the top of the Mounting Brackets on both the Coupe and the Convertible. And like I said, this measurement (the placement of the Partition Track) varied from car to car. In the drawing I made, I averaged the measurements I found, figuring that since all the cars weren't off by more than a fraction, it would be close enough. Also note that because the package shelf isn't actually totally flat, but has a bit of a "bow" to it, these measurements are from the center of the shelf to the Partition Track. (NOTE: The "bow" in the drawing is VERY exagerated just to show that there IS one.)

When I purchased my current 68 Convertible years later, I measured the original fold down from that car and it just about matched exactly the drawing I had made years before! Guess I got it right after all!!!

But what I'm getting at is that the measurements in the drawing on my home page, was made from several cars and is an average of all the cars put together (coupe to Coupe and Convertible to Convertible...)

Did I explain this right??? I hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Thanks Pat and Ed. Pat, The only picture I could see on ebay was the exterior shot. It looks like someone's gonna get a nice(unmolested) car. Ed, thanks for the info. It sounds like they vary enough to get a nice fit in each car. It also sounds like the top of the partition will always be about an inch below the top of the seat support. Make sense?? T

Yes, I'd say between an inch and an inch and a quarter. Give or take a few hairs!

I also agree on Pat's car. A nice looking UNMOLESTED original. Few and far between nowadays. Good luck on the auction pat.
