hey, i got a pair of 6x9's for x-mas, they wont fit in my rear package tray without cutting it up, and i was thinking about buying boxes, but the way the back window is (69 camaro) i dont think i would be able to see out of it if i stuffed the boxes back there, the boxes are about 8"s high. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or had the same problem. let me know. thanks alot

6x9s fit fine, they mount underneath, the package tray does not get cut at all. you dont use the screens. I have them in my 67 and they work and fit without a cut.

really, i thought they would fit, but there is a little peice of metal that goes right over the top of the speaker should be, i know it will fit, but i was worried about sound quality because it will just bounce off the metal peice?

I'm using the speaker bezel with the grille removed, and mounting both under the deck. (back porch, and my mother always called it.) i had to use hte bezel as a spacer to keep the tweeter from sticking too far above the surface. Also had to remove the cross brace material from the speaket opening so the tweeter would clear. Then I got repro 69 speaker grilles for about $15 each. When complete, it will look factory.

I was not concerned at all about the back metal section, and I definitely wanted my speakers to be top mounted. I removed whatever metal needed to be removed to mount the speakers, then I put the insulation on the metal followed by the package tray. I also ordered rear speaker covers for like a 74 camaro, its the hard paper folded and insulation inside, used to surround the speaker. This created a box around the 6x9 and they sound awsome. There the newer model infinitys and I love the white looking grills, so I wanted to see them. IF I HAD TO DO OVER, I WOULD BUY A GOOD SET OF COMPOINENTS AND MOUNT BACK THERE, THIS WOULD EQUAL THE BEST SOUND, AND BETTER IMAGING!!!! This is not out of the question as of now. But then again, this is only my opinion. Hope that it helped to some extent.

Robby.

I ordered a new mesh style package tray from NPD and my 6 x 9's are not visible at all.
